The SUNY Cortland baseball team has received a berth into the 54-team NCAA Division III playoffs for the 16th straight season and the 17th time overall. The Red Dragons (38-3) have been chosen as the top seed in an eight-team regional hosted by Ithaca College at Auburn’s Falcon Park May 14-18. Cortland will play Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. versus eighth-seeded Grove City College (Pa.) (18-16) in the opening round.

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Freshman Donnalyn Cross (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) hit a two-run single to break a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh inning and SUNY Cortland won the NCAA Division III Softball Regional at Plattsburgh with a 3-1 victory over Endicott College.
The Red Dragons (38-11), ranked 22nd nationally, advance to the eight-team NCAA Division III World Series May 16-20 in Salem, Va. Cortland will face the winner of the Rock Island (Illinois) Regional winner, still to be determined, in the opening round on Friday. Cortland qualifies for the World Series for the fifth time overall - the Red Dragons previously played at the Series in 1985, 1998, 2003 and 2004.

EWING, N.J. – Union College midfielder Keri Messa recorded four goals and two assists, including what proved to be the game-winning goal with 5:15 remaining, as the nationally eighth-ranked Dutchwomen held off 18th-ranked Cortland, 13-12, in the NCAA Division III tournament second round.
Sophomore Jessie Fritz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scored four goals and junior Danielle Torre (Massapequa) added three goals and two assists for Cortland. The Red Dragons (14-6), who were making their 10th straight NCAA appearance, finished the season the same way they started it - with a one-goal loss to Union. Cortland lost 9-8 at Union in early March.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally second-ranked Cortland men’s lacrosse team scored the last three goals of the game and defeated Springfield College, 12-9, in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament Saturday afternoon at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. With the win, their 12th consecutive, the Red Dragons improved to 16-1 and advance to the national quarterfinals where they will host eighth-ranked Middlebury on Wednesday, May 14, at 4 p.m. The Pride fell to 11-7 with the loss.

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Sophomore Katie Finch (Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth) allowed six hits and one unearned run as Cortland stayed unbeaten at the NCAA Division III Softball Regional hosted by SUNY Plattsburgh.
Cortland (37-11) improves to 3-0 in the double-elimination, seven-team tournament. The fourth-seeded Red Dragons will play in Sunday's championship round at noon in a rematch with the second-seeded Gulls and need one victory to advance to the Division III World Series in Salem, Va. Endicott stayed alive later Saturday with a 3-0 win over St. John Fisher.

SUNY Cortland sophomore pitcher Matt Tone (Rochester/Irondequoit) has been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference's (SUNYAC) Don Axtell Pitcher of the Year in a vote of the league's coaches.
Tone is one of seven Cortland players to earn all-league honors, while Red Dragon ninth-year head coach Joe Brown was named the 2008 SUNYAC Walter Nitardy Coach of the Year.
