The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has recognized 156 SUNY Cortland winter and spring sports student-athletes on its All-Academic and Commissioner's List teams for the 2009-10 season.

Athletes earn a spot on the All-Academic LIst by recording at least a 3.3 grade point average during the most recent semester and are chosen to the Commissioner's List if they have at least a cumulative 3.3 grade point average over the past three semesters combined.

SUNY Cortland junior guard Dustin Marshall (Newfield) has been named to the 2009-10 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men’s basketball all-conference first team.

Marshall led Cortland this season with 13 points, 3.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He also ranked third on the team with 5.2 rebounds per contest. Marshall shot 51 percent from the field (123-of-244), including 48 percent (53-of-111) from three-point range, and was an 84 percent shooter from the foul line.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Brian Beckford (Brooklyn/Christ the King) scored 25 points and hauled in 15 rebounds as Oneonta defeated Cortland, 66-55, in the SUNYAC men’s basketball tournament semifinals at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Third-seeded Cortland (16-11) had four double-figure scorers, led by freshman Jeremy Smith’s (Bronx/Riverdale Kingsbridge) 12 points. Freshman Jesse Winter (Rockville Centre/South Side) scored 11 points while senior Paul Oliver (Phoenix) and sophomore Brian Manning (Elmira/Elmira Southside) tallied 10 points each.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior guard Dustin Marshall (Newfield) made all six of his three-point attempts and finished with a game-high 25 points as Cortland defeated Fredonia, 70-60, in the SUNYAC men’s basketball tournament quarterfinals.

The third-seeded Red Dragons (16-10) will face second-seeded Oneonta in the semifinals Friday at 6 p.m. at SUNY Plattsburgh. The host Cardinals will play fourth-seeded Brockport Friday at 8 p.m., with the championship game slated for Saturday at 4 p.m. in Plattsburgh.

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Sophomore Brian Manning (Elmira/Elmira Southside) scored a career-high 19 points as Cortland concluded its regular season schedule with a 56-50 victory at Fredonia.

The victory sets up a rematch between the Red Dragons and the Blue Devils in the SUNYAC tournament quarterfinals in Cortland Tuesday at 8 p.m. Cortland finished 11-7 in league play (15-10 overall) and tied Brockport for third place. Cortland will be the third seed by virtue of a season sweep over Brockport. Fredonia is 11-13 overall and tied fifth place with Buffalo State at 9-9 in the conference. Fredonia is the sixth seed after losing a tiebreaker to the Bengals.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) hit a tiebreaking three-pointer with eight seconds remaining and finished with a team-high 18 points as Buffalo State defeated Cortland, 66-62.

Cortland tied the game at 62-62 on a long three-pointer by Brian Manning (Elmira/Elmira Southside) with 15 seconds remaining, but the Bengals raced downcourt and Simmons made his third three-pointer of the game to put the hosts ahead. Following a pair of timeouts, Cortland turned the ball over with three seconds remaining and T.O. Jackson made the second of two free throws with one second left to seal the victory.

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Junior Brian Hooks (Cohoes/Shaker) led four double-figure scorers with 18 points as Oneonta defeated Cortland, 75-58, in a battle of two of the SUNYAC’s top teams. Oneonta is 19-5 overall and leads the SUNYAC with a 12-5 record and one game remaining. Cortland drops to 14-9 overall and is now fourth in the league at 10-6 with two games left. Brockport and Plattsburgh are both one game ahead of Cortland at 11-5.

Freshman Jeremy Smith (Bronx/Riverdale Kingsbridge) led Cortland with a career-high 15 points. He made 6-of-8 shots, 3-of-5 from three-point range. Junior Dustin Marshall (Newfield) scored 13 points and registered five steals, five rebounds and four assists while senior Paul Oliver (Phoenix) scored 10 points.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Plattsburgh junior guard Steve Thomas (Plattsburgh/Northern Adirondack) scored 23 points, including a tie-breaking three-pointer with one minute, 11 seconds remaining, as the Cardinals defeated Cortland, 69-65, in a SUNYAC contest.

Plattsburgh (15-7, 10-5 SUNYAC) overcame a 21-point first-half deficit to move into a tie with Cortland (14-8, 10-5 SUNYAC) for third place in the league standings. Brockport leads the tight conference race with an 11-4 record, followed by Oneonta at 11-5 and Plattsburgh and Cortland both at 10-5. Cortland has three league games remaining, all on the road next week versus Oneonta, Buffalo State and Fredonia.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior guard Dustin Marshall (Newfield) recorded career highs of 26 points and nine assists as Cortland defeated visiting Potsdam, 75-62, in a SUNYAC matchup. The Red Dragons are 14-7 overall and 10-4 in the SUNYAC, a half game behind Brockport’s 11-4 first-place record.

Marshall made 4-of-5 three-pointers and 10-of-13 overall field goal attempts. He also grabbed six rebounds and made three steals. Senior Paul Oliver (Phoenix) added 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and senior Ben Nagle (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) added eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Dustin Marshall (Newfield) scored 16 points, dished out seven assists and grabbed six rebounds as Cortland defeated Oswego, 76-63, in a SUNYAC contest. The Red Dragons (13-7, 9-4 SUNYAC) remained in second place in the league with the win and moved within a game of leader Brockport (10-3), an 83-74 loser at New Paltz, with five games remaining.
