CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Dustin Marshall (Newfield) scored 16 points, dished out seven assists and grabbed six rebounds as Cortland defeated Oswego, 76-63, in a SUNYAC contest. The Red Dragons (13-7, 9-4 SUNYAC) remained in second place in the league with the win and moved within a game of leader Brockport (10-3), an 83-74 loser at New Paltz, with five games remaining.

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Senior guard Oppong Agyemang (Windsor, CT) banked in a short driving jumper at the buzzer to give New Paltz its only lead of the game and the Hawks defeated Cortland, 68-67. New Paltz evens its SUNYAC record at 6-6 and is 10-8 overall. Cortland had a five-game winning streak snapped and is now 12-7 overall and 8-4 and in second place in the conference.

Junior Dustin Marshall (Newfield) hit 5-of-6 three-pointers and led Cortland with 19 points. He also totaled eight rebounds and four assists. Senior Paul Oliver (Phoenix) scored 16 points, senior Ben Nagle (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) added 11 points and nine rebounds and freshman Jesse Winter (Rockville Centre/South Side) dished out a career-high eight assists.

SUNY Cortland junior guard Dustin Marshall (Newfield) has been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 31. Marshall averaged 18 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game in three Cortland victories.

GENESEO, N.Y. – Junior Dustin Marshall (Newfield) tied the game with a jumper in the final seconds of regulation and finished two assists shy of a triple-double as Cortland outlasted Geneseo in double overtime, 87-73, in a SUNYAC battle. The Red Dragons improved to 12-6 with their fifth straight win and remain one game behind Brockport in the league standings with an 8-3 mark.

Marshall finished with 20 points and career-highs of 10 rebounds and eight assists. Senior Paul Oliver (Phoenix) also scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds and sophomore Brian Manning (Elmira/Elmira Southside) matched his career high with 14 points.

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Junior Dustin Marshall (Newfield) led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points as Cortland defeated host Brockport, 76-68, in a battle of the top two teams in the SUNYAC standings.

The Red Dragons are now 11-6 overall and move closer to the Golden Eagles in the league with a 7-3 mark. Brockport is 12-5 overall and 8-2 in the SUNYAC, with both of its league losses coming versus Cortland.

Fans can follow Cortland's basketball doubleheaders Friday at Brockport and Saturday at Geneseo online. Brockport will be providing live stat coverage (no radio, as previously thought), while Geneseo will have radio coverage. The Cortland-Brockport women's game starts at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by the men at 8 p.m. The Cortland-Geneseo women's game is Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 4 p.m.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Freshman Jesse Winter (Rockville Centre/South Side) hit a tiebreaking short jumper in the lane with 39 seconds left in overtime and Cortland defeated Oneonta, 66-61, in a matchup of SUNYAC foes. Cortland takes over second place in the league standings with a 6-3 record and is 10-6 overall. Oneonta drops into a tie for third place at 5-4 and is 12-4 overall.

Junior Dustin Marshall (Newfield) led all scorers with 18 points, including five in the extra session. He also finished with five steals and six rebounds. Winter scored 12 points and dished out six assists while senior Ben Nagle (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) recorded a game-high 11 rebounds.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Ron Evans (New Hartford) scored 18 points and senior Paul Oliver (Phoenix) finished with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds as Cortland won 68-54 over visiting Buffalo State.

Junior Dustin Marshall (Newfield) added 13 points and five rebounds and junior Chris Milke (Macedon/Palmyra-Macedon) grabbed seven rebounds and matched his career high with six blocked shots for the Red Dragons (9-6, 5-3 SUNYAC). Sophomore Brian Manning (Elmira/Elmira Southside) scored eight points, all in the final nine minutes, and senior Ben Nagle (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) recorded nine rebounds.

The Red Dragons improved to 4-3 in the conference and 8-6 overall. Fredonia is 6-7 overall and also 4-3 in the SUNYAC.

Sophomore Brian Manning (Elmira/Elmira Southside) added 11 points as Cortland’s other double-figure scorer. Senior Ben Nagle (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) led the Red Dragon defensive effort with 14 rebounds and three blocked shots and also scored six points.

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Curtis Pierce scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Potsdam defeated visiting Cortland, 63-60, for its first SUNYAC win of the season. Olando Minott added 16 points, six assists and six rebounds and Benjamin Walker scored 11 points for Potsdam (2-10, 1-5 SUNYAC), which overcame a seven-point deficit over the final 14 minutes.

Senior Paul Oliver (Phoenix) led Cortland (7-6, 3-3 SUNYAC) with 11 points and freshman Jeremy Smith (Bronx/Riverdale Kingsbridge) scored 10 points. Freshman Freshman Harrison Hefele (Greenlawn/Friends Academy) tallied a career-high nine points and also registered three steals, four rebounds and two assists.
