The SUNY Cortland football team is calling on the local community to get in the game and join the fight against diseases affecting bone marrow, such as leukemia. The program will host its fourth annual “Get in the Game, Save a Life” National Marrow Donor Program Drive from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, in Corey Union. The drive aims to add to the nearly 20 million people worldwide listed as potential donors and the two successful match stories SUNY Cortland has claimed over the past couple of years.

The finalists have been announced for the 2011-12 SUNY Cortland C-Club Senior Male Athlete of the Year and Senior Female Athlete of the Year Awards. The winners will be recognized at the C-Club Athletics Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 30, at the Alumni Ice Arena.

Three SUNY Cortland players have been named to the All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Region team for the 2011 season. Sophomore wide receiver John Babin (Warwick Valley) and senior offensive tackle Billy Castro (Washingtonville) were named to the first team, while senior cornerback D.J. Romano (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy) earned second-team All-ECAC recognition.

SUNY Cortland senior offensive tackle Billy Castro (Washingtonville), sophomore wide receiver John Babin (Warwick Valley) and graduate student quarterback Dan Pitcher (Cortland) have been named to the 2011 D3football.com All-America team. Castro was selected to the All-America second team. Babin and Pitcher were honorable mention choices.

Cortland senior offensive lineman Billy Castro (Washingtonville) competed for the North squad in the third annual D3 Football Senior Classic on Friday, Dec. 9. The broadcast of the game is archived online.

In addition, Castro is scheduled to compete in the FCS Senior Scout Bowl on Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The game will be broadcast online on the HTC web site. Castro is the only Div. III player on either roster for that contest.

Castro was a first-team All-NJAC and first team D3football.com All-East selection at offensive tackle this fall.

SUNY Cortland graduate student quarterback Dan Pitcher (Cortland) has been named to the first team of the 2011 Capital One Division III Football Academic All-America team. The team was chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He is the lone quarterback on the national first team.

In addition, Pitcher is one of three Cortland players chosen to CoSIDA's Capital One Division III Academic All-District first team for District 3 along with his brother, senior offensive tackle Matt Pitcher (Cortland), and senior linebacker Bill Smith (Nanuet).

SUNY Cortland graduate student quarterback Dan Pitcher (Cortland) has been announced as one of 10 finalists for the 19th annual Gagliardi Trophy. The award (pronounced Gah-LAR-dee) is presented to the top NCAA Div. III football student-athlete in recognition of excellence in athletics, academics and community service.

Three Cortland players earned New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) weekly football honors for their performances in the Red Dragons' 14-0 victory over Albright College in the ECAC Div. III Southeast Bowl Nov. 19. Graduate student quarterback Dan Pitcher (Cortland) was named the NJAC Offensive Player of the Week, freshman wide receiver Kordel McInnis (Washington Township, NJ) was the NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Week and junior Pete Furey (Niskayuna) earned NJAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland graduate student quarterback Dan Pitcher (Cortland) passed for 270 yards and two touchdowns and earned Most Outstanding Player of the Game honors as the Red Dragons shut out Albright College, 14-0, in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Southeast Bowl.
