09.01 | Men's Lacrosse
The SUNY Cortland men's lacrosse team will be holding its third annual Cortland Lacrosse Alumni and Supporters Golf Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 at the Elm Tree Golf Course on Route 13 in Cortland. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Cortland men's lacrosse program.

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has recognized 156 SUNY Cortland winter and spring sports student-athletes on its All-Academic and Commissioner's List teams for the 2009-10 season.

Athletes earn a spot on the All-Academic LIst by recording at least a 3.3 grade point average during the most recent semester and are chosen to the Commissioner's List if they have at least a cumulative 3.3 grade point average over the past three semesters combined.

Cortland men’s lacrosse players Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) and Brian Krol (Niskayuna) have been honored for their academic achievements for the 2010 season.

Tota was selected to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine College Division District I All-Academic At-Large first team. Krol was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award winner for men’s lacrosse and was one of 71 men’s lacrosse players across all divisions to be chosen to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-American team.

Junior midfielder Chris DeLuca (Sayville) and senior midfielder Tom Burke (Massapequa) have each earned individual national honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), as well as being named as two of Cortland’s school-record eight USILA Division III All-Americans as announced by Inside Lacrosse. DeLuca received the Iroquois National Award – Outstanding Player in Division III, while Burke received the Division III Specialty Player Award.

DeLuca and Burke were joined on the All-America first team by junior defender Justin Schneidman (Katonah/John Jay-Cross River). Senior attackman Brian Krol (Niskayuna) and senior midfielder Brandon Misiaszek (New Hartford) earned third team honors, and junior attackman Jay DiStefano (Huntington/Harborfields) and junior midfielder Eric Parah (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and sophomore attackman Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) were honorable mention selections.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Tufts sophomore Kevin McCormick (Laytonsville, MD/Georgetown Prep) scored with three minutes remaining in regulation and sophomore goalie Steven Foglietta (Oceanside) stuffed Cortland senior Brandon Misiaszek's (New Hartford) last-second shot as the nationally sixth-ranked Jumbos knocked off the defending national champion third-ranked Red Dragons, 10-9, in the NCAA Div. III Semifinals Sunday afternoon at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons had their 16-game winning streak come to a close and finished 17-3 overall. Tufts improved to 19-1 and advances to the national title game at M & T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Md., versus Salisbury, which defeated Stevenson in overtime in the second semifinal contest.

Senior Brian Krol (Niskayuna) paced Cortland with three goals. Senior Tom Burke (Massapequa) led all scorers with five points on two goals and three assists. Sophomore Greg Wright (Irondequoit) added two goals and one assist, while junior Jay DiStefano (Huntington/Harborfields) and sophomore Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroder) each contributed a goal.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally third-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team broke open a close game with seven consecutive goals over a nine minute, 47 second span in the third quarter and went on to defeat 14th-ranked RIT, 15-7, Wednesday afternoon in the NCAA Div. III Quarterfinals at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 17-2 with their 16th win in a row and host sixth-ranked Tufts, an 11-9 winner versus Middlebury, in the national semifinals, Sunday, May 23, at a time to be determined. The Tigers' concluded their season at 14-6.

Junior Chris DeLuca (Sayville) led Cortland with five goals and 10 ground balls. Junior Jay DiStefano (Huntington/Harborfields) became the fifth Cortland player to surpass 100 career points this season with two goals and one assist. Senior Brandon Misiaszek (New Hartford) scored twice, while sophomore Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) added a goal and two assists.

SUNY Cortland junior midfielder Chris DeLuca (Sayville) has been chosen as the 2010 New York State Division III Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Year. In addition, a total of seven Cortland players were selected to either the all-state first or second teams.

Joining DeLuca on the first team are senior attackman Brian Krol (Niskayuna), senior midfielder Tom Burke (Massapequa) and junior defenseman Justin Schneidman (Katonah/John Jay-Cross River). Senior midfielder Brandon Misiaszek (New Hartford), junior attackman Jay DiStefano (Huntington/Harborfields) and junior defenseman Shane Crossett (Camillus/West Genesee) were named to the second team.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally third-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team broke open a close game with a 12-goal run spanning late in the first quarter into the third quarter and went on to defeat Keene State, 18-6, Saturday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Div. III playoffs at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons, who won their 15th consecutive game, improved to 16-2 on the season and advance to face RIT, an 11-9 winner at Connecticut College, Wednesday at home in the national quarterfinals at a time to be announced. The Owls' season ended at 13-6.

Senior Brian Krol (Niskayuna) led Cortland with three goals and an assist, while five different players scored two goals. Sophomores Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) and Greg Wright (Irondequoit) each had two goals and two assists. Junior Chris DeLuca (Sayville) added two goals and an assist, and junior Jay DiStefano (Huntington/Harborfields) and sophomore Eric Richards (Skaneateles) netted two goals apiece.

The defending national champion SUNY Cortland men’s lacrosse team has received a bye into the second round of the 2010 NCAA Division III tournament and will host Keene State College (N.H.) on Saturday, May 15, 1 p.m., at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. Keene State defeated Castleton, 21-7, in a first-round game Wednesday.

The winner of Saturday's game advances to the national quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 19, and will face either RIT or Connecticut College. The national semifinals will also be held on campus sites on Sunday, May 23. The Division III national championship game is Sunday, May 30, at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.

05.11 | Men's Lacrosse
SUNY Cortland junior midfielder Chris DeLuca (Sayville) has been voted as the 2010 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Year by the league’s coaches. In addition, freshman goalie Mike Kaminski (Sayville) was named the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year and fourth-year head coach Steve Beville earned SUNYAC Coach of the Year honors for the second time in three years.

Eleven Red Dragon players earned all-conference honors. Eight of those were first-team selections – DeLuca, junior attack Jay DiStefano (Huntington/Harborfields), senior attack Brian Krol (Niskayuna), senior midfielder Brandon Misiaszek (New Hartford), sophomore long-stick midfielder Jack Kennedy (Camillus/West Genesee), senior short-stick defender Tom Burke (Massapequa) and junior defenders Shane Crossett (Camillus/West Genesee) and Justin Schneidman (Katonah/John Jay-Cross River). Junior faceoff specialist Justin Battino (Plainview) and junior short-stick defender Eric Parah (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) were on the second team and sophomore attack Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) was honorable mention.
