United States Congressman Michael Arcuri, who represents New York's 24th District, honored the 2009 SUNY Cortland national championship men's lacrosse team during a reception at the C-Club Hall of Fame Room on campus Thursday, November 12. Arcuri presented the team with a copy of the remarks placed in The Congressional Record, recognizing the program's NCAA Division III title this past May.

The defending NCAA Division III champion SUNY Cortland men’s lacrosse team raised more than $2,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central New York, Inc., during its 2009 fall tournament Oct. 11 at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The tournament featured Springfield College, New York Tech, Ohio Wesleyan and Union College along with the Red Dragons.

“It was a great day for lacrosse players and fans, and more importantly we were able to raise money for a very worthy cause,” said Cortland head coach Steve Beville. “We hope to make this an annual event and increase the participation in future years.”

The SUNY Cortland men's lacrosse team will be holding its second annual Cortland Lacrosse Alumni and Supporters Golf Tournament on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at the Elm Tree Golf Course on Route 13 in Cortland. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Cortland men's lacrosse program.

SUNY Cortland men’s lacrosse coach Steve Beville has been named the 2009 NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Coach of the Year by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA).

Beville led the Red Dragons to a 19-2 record and the NCAA Division III title. Cortland won four NCAA tournament games, including a 9-7 victory over Gettysburg College in the championship game at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. Cortland’s 19 victories this spring are a school single-season record.

ALBANY, N.Y. - New York State Governor David Paterson honored members of SUNY Cortland's 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse championship squad at a reception in the state capitol on Tuesday, June 9.

Cortland third-year head coach Steve Beville and some of the Red Dragon players were able to attend the event, which also honored Division II men's champion C.W. Post and Division II women's champion Adelphi University.

FOXBOROUGH, MASS. - Junior Brandon Misiaszek (New Hartford) scored a career-high five goals and was named the Most Outstanding Player as the nationally fourth-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team won its second NCAA Division III title since 2006 with a 9-7 victory over fifth-ranked Gettysburg College at Gillette Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Red Dragons finished 2009 at 19-2, setting a school record for wins in a season, and handed third-year head coach Steve Beville his 200th career victory. The Bullets had their 14-game winning streak snapped and finished 16-4.

SUNY Cortland senior midfielder Joey Morgan (Putnam Valley) has been selected as the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate New York Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Year, while freshman attack Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) has been named the ECAC Division III Upstate New York Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Year.

Cortland will be facing Gettysburg College in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship Game on Sunday, May 24, at 12 p.m. at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. The game is part of a three-day weekend that also features two Division I semifinals on Saturday (Syracuse vs. Duke and Cornell vs. Virginia), the Division III and Division II (Le Moyne vs. C.W. Post) title games on Sunday and the Division I finals on Monday.

Five members of the SUNY Cortland men’s lacrosse team have been selected to the 2009 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III All-America team. Senior midfielder Joey Morgan (Putnam Valley) and senior defenseman Luke Lemon (Colorado Springs, CO/Air Academy) were named to the All-America first team. Sophomore defensive midfielder Eric Parah (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) earned third team honors, while sophomore midfielder Chris DeLuca (Sayville) and senior defenseman Matt Noble (La Fayette) were honorable mention selections.

CORTLAND, N.Y. –  The nationally fourth-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team closed the game with a 9-2 second-half run and defeated seventh-ranked Middlebury, 16-8, Sunday afternoon in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III men's lacrosse tournament. With the win, the Red Dragons improved to 18-2, matching a school record for victories in a season, and will face the Gettysburg Bullets in the national championship game, Sunday, May 24, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. Gettysburg defeated Stevenson, 12-7, in the other semifinal game on Sunday. This is the fourth straight trip to the finals for Cortland and the third overall for Gettysburg, which last played for the national title in 2002.
