The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has recognized 156 SUNY Cortland winter and spring sports student-athletes on its All-Academic and Commissioner's List teams for the 2009-10 season.

Athletes earn a spot on the All-Academic LIst by recording at least a 3.3 grade point average during the most recent semester and are chosen to the Commissioner's List if they have at least a cumulative 3.3 grade point average over the past three semesters combined.

05.20 | Women's Track and Field
The Cortland men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed at the Oneonta State May Meet, a last-chance meet to qualify for the NCAA Div. III Championships. The national meet will be held May 27-29 in Berea, Ohio.

On the men's side, senior Kyle O'Brien (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) improved his NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an effort of 9:11.86. O'Brien is a two-time All-American in the event. In the women's meet, sophomore Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) improved on her provisional NCAA time in the 10,000 meters with her performance of 36:33.96.

05.08 | Women's Track and Field
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Cortland took top honors in two individual events and one relay on its way to a second-place finish at the eight-team State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Red Dragons scored 160 team points and finished only behind Geneseo’s 176 points. Oneonta placed third with 112.5 points, followed by Buffalo State (97), Brockport (96.5), Plattsburgh (95), Fredonia (58) and Oswego (13).

Freshman Nicki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) led a top-three Cortland sweep in the heptathlon with her winning score of 3,899 points. Freshman Christi Nassauer (Mount Sinai) won the pole vault league title by clearing 3.26 meters (10’ 8.25”).

05.04 | Women's Track and Field
SUNY Cortland freshman Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) has been selected as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending May 2.

Fairbanks placed third in the 800-meter run in 2:17.28 at the Cornell Outdoor Invitational last Saturday. She also was part of the winning 4x400-meter relay team that was clocked in 4:08.71.

ITHACA, N.Y. – Four Cortland athletes earned third-place individual finishes and the Red Dragons posted a half dozen other top-five individual efforts at the Cornell University Outdoor Invitational.

Freshman Lex Grable (Pine Bush) finished third in the 400-meter dash (58.67) and freshman Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) was third in the 800 meters (2:17.28). Freshman Jessica Andrianos (Camillus/West Genesee) finished third in the discus (39.09 meters – 128’ 3”) and sophomore Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland) was third in the 200-meter dash (26.45).

04.25 | Women's Track and Field
ITHACA, N.Y. – Four Red Dragons earned top-five finishes at the Cornell Big Red Invitational. Freshman Caitlin Triantafillou (Getzville/Williamsville North) placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.81) and freshman Jessica Andrianos (Camillus/West Genesee) was fourth in the discus at 37.16 meters (121’ 11”). Freshman Jordan Naylon (Fairport) finished fifth out of 36 runners in the 1,500 meters (4:48.21) and senior Lisa Holt (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough) was fifth out of 19 in the 5,000 meters (18:26.24).

04.22 | Women's Track and Field
PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Cortland sophomore Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and junior Kristin Vespa (Ossining) each provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in the 10,000-meter run late Thursday night at the Penn Relays.

Dalton finished 24th in the event with a time of 36:41.12 and Vespa was 30th in 37:29.21. A total of 35 runners spanning different NCAA divisions competed in the race at historic Franklin Field.

04.17 | Women's Track and Field
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Six Red Dragons won events and four others place second to highlight Cortland’s performances at its own Cortland Classic. The meet was held on Friday and Saturday in rainy and cold weather conditions at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

Freshman Lex Grable (Pine Bush) won the 400-meter dash in 1:00.2 and sophomore Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland) was the 200-meter dash champion in 27.2 seconds. Freshman Chelsea Lachman (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) captured the shot put with a distance of 11.09 meters (36’ 4.75”), freshman Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) won the triple jump at 10.27 meters (33’ 8.25”) and freshman Jessica Andrianos (Camillus/West Genesee) won the discus with an effort of 38.60 meters (126’ 8”). In addition, sophomore Jenna Evarts (West Islip) tied for first in the 100-meter dash in 13.2 seconds.

04.10 | Women's Track and Field
LEWISBURG, PA. – Sophomore Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Div. III Championships in the 10,000-meter run to highlight Cortland’s performances at the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic. The meet featured a number of Division I and Division II schools.

Dalton placed eighth out of 31 entrants, and was the second Division III finisher, with a time of 37:07.54. Junior Kristin Vespa (Ossining) finished 15th in the event in 37:44.82.

04.03 | Women's Track and Field
PRINCETON, N.J. – Freshman Jordan Naylon (Fairport) and freshman Alana Hotchkiss (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) each finished in the top 10 of their events at the Sam Howell Invitational, hosted by Division I Princeton University. Naylon finished eighth in the 1,500 meters in 4:54.30 and Hotchkiss was ninth in the triple jump at 10.68 meters (35’ 0.5”).
