CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally fifth-ranked Cortland wrestling team won 9-of-10 individual weight classes and defeated 24th-ranked Oneonta, 41-3, Wednesday night at Corey Gymnasium. The host Red Dragons improved their dual-match record to 9-0 on the season with the win, while the visiting Red Dragons fell to 9-2.

Cortland opened up a 25-0 lead after the first six bouts. Nationally ninth-ranked junior Peppy Cabrera (Bay Shore/Brentwood) earned an 8-2 win at 125 pounds. Sophomore Dave Colagiovanni (Mahopac) followed with an exciting 12-10 sudden-victory win over senior Walter Moore (Rush/Rush-Henrietta) at 133 pounds, earning a takedown 12 seconds into the first one minute extra session.

At 141 pounds, nationally fourth-ranked Cortland freshman Joe Widrick (Beaver Falls/Beaver River) and Oneonta sophomore Michael Gregg (Islip) also went to overtime. Widrick earned a takedown with 15 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the bout at 7-7, barely prevented an escape by Gregg in the final seconds and clinched the win with just five seconds left in the one-minute sudden-victory period. Cortland sophomore Kevin Sackett (Webster/Webster Thomas) gave Cortland a 15-0 lead with his team-high eighth pin of the season at one minute, 38 seconds of the opening period in the 149-pound weight class.

After a forfeit win for the host Red Dragons at 157 pounds, nationally ninth-ranked Cortland senior Zack Bogardus (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) crafted an 11-2 major victory at 165 pounds. Oneonta picked up its lone win of the night at 174 pounds in another bout that went to extra time. Sophomore Josh Wake (Delhi/Delaware Academy) secured a takedown of Cortland sophomore Corey Barber (Hudson Falls) late in the second one-minute sudden-victory period for a 10-8 decision after the two were tied 7-7 at the end of regulation and 8-8 at the end of the first overtime session.
