SUNY Cortland freshman Tyler Sick (Cohocton/Hornell) has been named the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) Rookie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 20.

Sick earned all-state honors with a fifth-place finish in the 157-pound weight class at last weekend's New York State Collegiate Wrestling Championships, hosted by the University at Buffalo.

Entering the competition unseeded, Sick posted a 4-2 record, including a win over the third seed from Oneonta. His only losses came to the top two seeds, both from Division I schools. Through the end of the week, Sick had a 14-11 record with five major decisions.

The ECWC consists of Brockport, Cortland, Ithaca, Lycoming (Pa.), Messiah (Pa.), Oneonta, Oswego and Rochester Institute of Technology.
