CORTLAND, N.Y. – Freshman Bridgette DeSantis (Rotterdam/Mohonasen) scored her second goal of the game eight minutes, 20 seconds into overtime to lift the Cortland women's soccer team to a 2-1 win Friday night at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 7-6-4 with the win, while the Saints fell to 10-4-3.

The Saints controlled much of the action early in the game and broke on top in the 12th minute. St. Lawrence sophomore Lizzie Bogosian (Manlius/Loomis Chaffee) carried the ball down the left side and fed a cross into the box. Freshman Elena Rogers (Naugatuck, CT/Stratton Mountain School) struck a one-time shot from 15 yards out that headed toward the left post. Junior Courtney Hendrick (West Newton, MA/Newton North) deflected the ball just before the goal line for her first score of the season.

The teams played evenly for the remainder of the first half with neither squad having a good opportunity. In the second half, the play stayed mostly in the midfield until the later stages. The Red Dragons eventually tied the game at 1-1 in the 80th minute. Senior Katie Trivisonno (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) sent a pass to DeSantis, who struck an 18-yard shot from the top of the box that beat St. Lawrence freshman goalie Abby van Geldern (Rowayton, CT/Brien McMahon) inside the left post.

Cortland had the two best chances to end the game in the late stages of regulation, but van Geldern stopped senior Kayla Sweet (Fonda/Fonda-Fultonville) in the 88th minute and denied junior Ashley Mewhorter (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) with eight seconds left. DeSantis scored the game-winner in the 99th minute. Sophomore Carly Williams (Emerson, NJ) sent a long ball to the left side of the field. DeSantis collected the pass, made a long run into the box and just beat van Geldern inside the left post for her fourth goal of the season.

Cortland sophomore goalie Pam Monnier (Northport) made three saves, as did van Geldern.
