ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Cortland wrestling team, ranked 13th nationally in Division III, finished first out of 11 teams at the Oneonta Invitational. The Red Dragons scored 157.5 points to win comfortably over second-place The College of New Jersey's 128.5 points and Oneonta's 99 points.

Junior Dave Colagiovanni (Mahopac) finished first at 133 pounds and junior Martino Sottile (Brentwood) was victorious at 197 pounds. Three other Red Dragons were runners-up in their weight classes - sophomore Aljamain Sterling (Uniondale) behind Colagiovanni at 133 pounds, junior Mike Ciaburri (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) at 174 pounds and junior Corey Barber (Hudson Falls) at 184 pounds.

Six additional Cortland wrestlers earned top-four finishes. Junior Kevin Sackett (Webster/Webster Thomas) and sophomore Stephen Perez (Bronx/Francis Lewis) finished third and fourth, respectively, at 149 pounds. Junior Joe Murphy (St. James/Smithtown) placed third at heavyweight, freshman Brian Borst (Duanesburg) was fourth at 125 pounds, freshman Jon Senese (Hauppauge) placed fourth at 157 pounds and junior Will Brodfuehrer (Canastota) was fourth at 165 pounds.

Colagiovanni, seeded first at 133 pounds and ranked eighth nationally, won his first match by technical fall and the next two by pin. He won by medical forfeit over Sterling in the finals. Sottile, seeded second 197 pounds, earned a major decision in his first match, beat the third seed in overtime in the semifinals and edged top-seeded Tyler Schmidt of Johns Hopkins in the finals, 3-2.

Sterling was 3-0 with two pins and a major decision before forfeiting to Colagiiovanni. Ciaburri won two matches by technical fall and his semifinal by a 5-1 decision before being pinned by nationally second-ranked Greg Osgoodby of TCNJ in the 174-pound finals. Barber pinned two opponents and won 5-4 in the semifinals at 184 pounds. He medically forfeited the championship match.

Sackett finished 6-1 and Perez was 4-1 at 149 pounds. Murphy, seeded first at heavyweight, was upset in his first match, 3-2, but won his final five matches, three by pin. Borst was 3-2 with a technical fall and a major decision at 125 pounds, Senese went 5-1 with three pins at 157 pounds and Brodfuehrer was 4-2 with two major decisions at 165 pounds. He lost 13-1 to top-seeded and nationally fourth-ranked Justin Bonititus of TCNJ in the third-place match.
