Jessica Laing Earns WBCA Honorable Mention All-America Recognition

Jessica Laing
SUNY Cortland sophomore forward Jessica Laing (Bloomville/South Kortright) has been chosen as a 2007-08 Division III women's basketball honorable mention All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). In addition, Laing has been named to the D3hoops.com All-East region women's basketball first team for the second straight season.

Laing was one of 40 Division III women's basketball players nationwide to be chosen as a finalist for WBCA first-team All-America honors. She received honorable mention status since she was not one of the eventual 10 first-team selections.

Laing led the Red Dragons this winter with 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest. Her 569 total points are the second-highest single-season total in school history. She shot 46 percent from the floor, including 34.0 percent (33-of-97) from three-point range, and hit 78 percent (146-of-187) of her foul shots.

A first team All-SUNYAC selection each of the last two years, Laing became the first sophomore in school history to reach the career 1,000-point mark. She ranks 13th in career scoring at Cortland with 1,047 points. Laing had 16 point-rebound “double-doubles” this season and has 35 in two years.

Cortland finished the season with a 24-6 record and captured the ECAC Division III Upstate New York tournament title.
