Sophomore Deanne Abell stopped 17 shots for the second time in three games
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Kaillie Briscoe (Orangeville, ON/Orangeville District School) scored five goals to lead the nationally sixth-ranked Hamilton women’s lacrosse team to a 15-7 win versus 18th-ranked Cortland Wednesday afternoon at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons fell to 3-4 with the loss, their fourth this season against a ranked team, while the Continentals improved to 4-1.

Junior Daniel Torre (Massapequa) led the Red Dragons with three goals, while sophomore Jessie Fritz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) had two goals and two assists. Senior Rachel Cornwell (Fairport) scored a goal, and freshman Bri Shost (Mahopac) tallied her first career goal. Sophomore Deanne Abell (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) tied her career high with 17 saves.

Seniors Jen McGowan (Jericho, VT/Mount Mansfield Union) and Nicole Tetreault (Guilderland) each contributed two goals and three assists for Hamilton. Junior Kate Marek (Alexandria, VA/The Gunnery (CT)) and sophomore Hilary Saverin (New Canaan, CT/Taft School) scored two goals apiece. Sophomore goalie Kate Fowler (Branford, CT/Wilton) stopped five shots.

The Continentals opened up a 3-0 lead 10 minutes, 40 seconds into the game before Shost netted a free-position goal two minutes later to make it 3-1. Hamilton stretched its lead to 7-1 in the first half, but Cortland closed the opening 30 minutes with goals from Fritz and Torre to pull the Red Dragons to within 7-3. Cortland made it an 8-5 game early in the second half, but the Continentals outscored Cortland, 7-2, the rest of the way to earn the 15-7 victory.
