ASHLAND, VA. – Sophomore Jessie Fritz (Baldwinsville/C.W.Baker) scored four second-half goals to lift the nationally 14th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team to a 9-6 victory at Randolph-Macon Saturday afternoon. The win was the first for first-year co-head coaches Elizabeth Sewruk and Jeanna Gates and evened the Red Dragons' record at 1-1 on the season. Randolph-Macon fell to 0-3 with the loss.
Marie Parry and Alex Wright led Randolph-Macon with two goals apiece, while Lacy Phelps recorded a goal and an assist. Lindsay Schabert stopped six shots.
Wright gave Randolph-Macon an early 1-0 lead, but the Red Dragons strung together three goals over a six-minute span to grab a 3-1 advantage. Parry closed out the scoring in the first half to cut the lead to 3-2. After Parry tied the score seven minutes, 30 seconds into the second half, the Red Dragons scored four straight, two by Fritz, to seize a 7-3 lead and take control of the game with 8:55 remaining. The teams traded goals the rest of the way for the final outcome of 9-6.
