Fifteen Red Dragons Score Goals in 28-1 Win vs. Morrisville St.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Ryan Heath (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scored four first-half goals and senior Billy Fuchs (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) added three goals and five assists all in the first half as the nationally third-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team defeated Morrisville St., 28-1, in SUNYAC action Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons improved to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference, while the Mustangs fell to 0-9 and 0-5.

Fifteen different players scored goals and 19 players scored at least one point for Cortland in the game. Freshman Matt Evanchak (Camillus/West Genesee) scored a career-high three goals and added an assist, freshman Chris DeLuca (Sayville) scored three goals, freshman Pete Morgan (Putnam Valley) had a career-best four points on two goals and two assists and senior Kyle Simensky (Locust Valley), sophomore Brian Krol (Niskayuna) and freshman Frank Padolecchia (Patchogue-Patchogue-Medford) scored two goals each. Senior Adam Hyde (West Seneca/West Seneca East), junior Conor Duffy (Vestal) and sophomore Kevin Keown (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown) contributed a goal and two assists apiece.

DeLuca also had a game-high eight ground balls and won 12-of-13 faceoffs, while senior J.R. Gaudet (Binghamton) won 9-of-13 and senior Josh Cittadino (Baldwin) was successful on 6-of-7. Four goalies split time in the cage with junior Mike Robinson (Alexandria, VA/Thomas Edison) making two saves in 27 minutes and junior Matt Hipenbecker (Mountain Lakes, NJ) stopping one shot. Senior Greg Steward (Elmont/Sewanhaka), normally a defensive midfielder, earned the start in goal on Senior Day.

Sophomore Tim Bobbett (Cazenovia/CBA) scored the Mustangs' lone goal, assisted by junior Andrew Elsmore (Scituate, MA/Plymouth St.). Freshman goalie Jeremy Hunt (Bourne, MA) made 14 saves in 46:14 before giving way to freshman Jimmy Hodgson (Charlton/Cazenovia), who stopped two shots in 13:46.

Cortland outshot Morrisville St., 68-5, had a 54-19 advantage in ground balls and won 27-of-33 faceoffs.
