CORTLAND, N.Y. – Competing in its first home match of the season, Cortland earned victories in eight of 10 matches and cruised to a 31-6 win over Oswego. The Red Dragons upped their dual record to 9-6, while the Lakers fell to 2-9.

Senior  Peppy Cabrera (Brentwood) opened for Cortland with a 13-1 major decision at 125 pounds. Junior Dave Colagiovanni (Mahopac) followed with a 5-1 decision at 133 pounds and sophomore Joey Widrick's (Castorland/Beaver River) forfeit victory at 141 pounds gave Cortland a 13-0 lead.

Oswego got on the board when freshman Blake Fisher (Seaford) posted a 9-7 overtime victory over Kevin Sackett (Webster/Webster Thomas). Fisher trailed 7-3 after the first period, but used an escape and a takedown in the second period to close to within 7-6. Fisher then rode out the third period to earn an advantage time point and force overtime. Fisher won the match with a takedown 16 seconds into the first one-minute sudden-victory period.

Cortland rebounded with wins in the next three matches. Sophomore Cory Mahoney (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) won 9-3 at 157 pounds and junior Will Brodfuehrer (Canastota) defeated Andrew Greenlaw (Warwick/Warwick Valley) 3-1 at 165 pounds on a takedown with 20 seconds remaining. Junior Mike Ciaburri (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) edged Craig Becker (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) 2-1 at 174 pounds as his takedown late in the first period held up.

Oswego's other victory came at 184 pounds when Thomas Lester (Amherst) won 3-0 over Jon Potts (Hauppauge). Lester broke a scoreless tie with a reversal early in the second period and added an advantage time point for the final margin. Cortland freshman George Dobrovosky (Skaneateles) won by forfeit at 197 pounds and junior heavyweight Joe Murphy (St. James/Smithtown) closed the evening with a 6-2 victory.
