Sophomore Christina DiLallo finished third overall and second among Div. III runners
CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's cross country team, ranked 35th nationally in Division III, claimed five of the top 10 spots to easily capture first place in the first-ever Jack Daniels Invitational on Saturday at Cortland.
Sophomore
Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) won the 6,000-meter race in 23:43.12, beating out 40 other competitors for the top spot. Cortland scored 29 points, finishing well ahead of Oneonta (59) and Fredonia St. (93) and Buffalo St. (93).
Sophomore Christine DiLallo (Randolph) finished third in 24:28.81 and senior
Lisa Holt (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough) was fifth in 24:30.62. Freshman
Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) cross the finish line eighth (24:39.12) and junior
Erin Keaveney (West Hempstead/Kellenberg Memorial) was 10th (24:45.83).
Jack Daniels coached Cortland's men's team for 17 seasons in a 19-year span from 1986-2004 and the women's team for 16 years in an 18-year span from 1987-2004. He is scheduled to return to campus on Oct. 30 when Cortland celebrates its seven NCAA Div. III women's championship teams that he coached (1989, 90, 92, 93, 94, 95, 97).
