SUNY Cortland senior defensive end
Bryan Wiley (Cape Vincent/Thousand Islands) and freshman kick returner
Justin Autera (Mahopac) have been selected to the D3football.com national “Team of the Week,” presented by Scoutware, for the week ending Oct. 18. The team consists of the best performers by position among all Division III schools during the week.
Wiley recorded a team-high nine tackles, six solo, in Cortland's 35-6 victory over Western Connecticut State last Saturday. He finished with two sacks and also registered a forced fumble, a pass breakup and two quarterback hurries. The Red Dragons limited the Colonials to nine yards of net rushing and 157 yards of total offense. Wiley was named to the “Team of the Week” for the second time this fall. The previous occasion came after he made 15 tackles in a win over Rowan on Sept. 19.
Autera scored touchdowns on both kickoff and punt returns in the win over Western Connecticut State. He opened the second half with a 79-yard kickoff return to give Cortland a 21-6 lead and added a 59-yard punt return for a score early in the fourth quarter. He is the first Cortland player in 76 years to return both a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns in the same game.
Cortland (4-2) will travel William Paterson this Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest.
