Michelle Gaufman Sets Career Kills Record in 3-0 Victory at Oswego

Michelle Gaufman's 1,742 career kills are a new Cortland school record
OSWEGO, N.Y. - Senior outside hitter Michelle Gaufman (Wantagh/MacArthur) became Cortland's career kills leader during the Red Dragons' 3-0 non-league victory at Oswego. Gaufman recorded 13 kills in the 25-15, 25-19, 25-21 victory over the Lakers to improve her collegiate total to 1,742. The previous school record was 1,739 kills set by Jessica Walker from 1995-98.

Gaufman recorded 365 kills as a freshman in 2006, followed by 472 as a sophomore, 599 last season and 306 thus far this fall.

Sophomore middle hitter Sheena Asibey (Brentwood) finished with eight kills and three blocks and senior outside hitter Ariel Rakita (Lake Grove/Sachem) had five kills, five aces, 14 digs and two blocks versus Oswego. Freshman Katie Wick (Cortland/Homer) added four kills and four digs. Freshmen Kristen Guercio (Smithtown/Smithtown East) and McKenna Riley (Homer) shared time at setter. Guercio recorded 18 assists, two aces and three digs and Riley totaled 10 assists and three digs.

Jess Isgro led Oswego (7-24) with seven kills and Elizabeth Crouch had 11 assists.

Cortland concludes its regular-season schedule Friday and Saturday at the Skidmore Invitational. The Red Dragons will play Montclair State and Skidmore on Friday and Union and Ramapo on Saturday. Cortland will face Geneseo on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 5 p.m. in the SUNYAC quarterfinals at New Paltz.
