The SUNY Cortland women’s soccer team has earned four spots on the 2009 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) all-league team. Junior goalie Pam Monnier (Northport) earned first-team All-SUNYAC honors for the second straight season. Sophomore forward Bridgette DeSantis (Schenectady/Mohonasen) joined Monnier on the first team, while junior defender Maura Martin (Chili/Gates-Chili) and freshman midfielder Stacey Wood (New Hyde Park) were named to the third team.

Monnier finished with an 11-5-3 record, a 0.73 goals against average and a .818 save percentage in 19 games. She posted seven solo shutouts and combined with a teammate on two others. At one point early in the season, Monnier played more than 491 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.

DeSantis led the Red Dragons this fall with seven goals and four assists for 18 points in 20 games. She scored three game-winning goals, including both goals in a 2-0 win over Oswego, and assisted on game-winning goals in a 1-0 win at Brockport and a 2-1 victory at Oneonta.

Martin finished the season with four goals and two assists for 10 points, while Wood scored four goals and assisted on one for nine points. Martin tallied the game-tying goal late in regulation in a 1-1 tie versus Fredonia in the SUNYAC semifinals, helping the Red Dragons eventually advance to the finals via penalty kicks. Wood scored game-winning goals in Cortland’s victories at Union, in overtime, and Oneonta.

Cortland finished the year with an 12-5-3 record – its fourth season of at least 10 victories in the last five years. The Red Dragons went 4-3-2 in SUNYAC play and, as the sixth seed, advanced to the SUNYAC championship game for the fourth time since 2004.
