SUNY Cortland defensive ends
Evan Wyler (Warwick/Warwick Valley) and
Bryan Wiley (Cape Vincent/Thousand Islands) have been selected to the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Southeast Football all-star squad.
Wyler, an 11-game starter, ranked fourth on the team with 68 tackles and led the Red Dragons with 41 solo tackles, 18.5 total tackles for losses and 20 quarterback hurries. Wyler potentially has one year of eligibility remaining, based on a medical hardship from the 2007 season.
Wiley finished the season with 74 tackles, 39 solo, in 11 games as a starter. He also recorded 17.5 total tackles for losses, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 10 quarterback hurries.
Wyler and Wiley shared the team lead with 10 sacks each and tied for 23rd nationally in Division III with 0.9 sacks per game. Wyler tied for 20th nationally with 1.7 tackles for losses per game, while Wiley was 36th with 1.6 tackles for losses per contest. The defensive end tandem helped Cortland finish 18th nationally in sacks per game (3.0), 21st in total defense (269.5 yards/game) and 33rd in rushing defense (95.6 yards/game).
Cortland finished the season with a 7-4 record, including a third-place 7-2 mark in the 10-team New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Red Dragons were selected to play in the ECAC Div. III Northwest Bowl – their fifth straight postseason berth and 15th overall.
