Senior Lindsay Bakker led the Cortland defense with nine ground balls and five caused turnovers
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Freshman
Lindsay Abbott (South Onondaga/Onondaga Central) scored a career-best eight points on a career-high six goals and two assists to lead the nationally 14th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team to a 17-6 victory versus Geneseo in the SUNYAC opener for both teams. The Red Dragons improved to 3-4 overall, while the Knights dropped to 2-2.

Brianna Straut (Nanuet) stopped two shots over the final 5:39.
Senior Maggie Morris (Massapequa) and junior Abby Hungerford (Syracuse/Corcoran) led the Knights with two goals each. Sophomore Lauren Burgoon (Syracuse/West Genesee) had a goal and an assist and junior Tara Murphy (St. James/Smithtown) chipped in with a goal. Senior goalie Hannah McKee (Ithaca) registered seven saves.
The Knights took an early 1-0 lead just 22 seconds into the game when Burgoon set up Hungerford's goal. Abbott evened the score less than three minutes later, and Miller gave Cortland a 2-1 lead at 25:57 before Burgoon tied the score at 2-2 with a free-position goal 37 seconds later. Kollar then netted back-to-back scores as Cortland took the lead for good. Hungerford pulled Geneseo to within 4-3, but Cortland closed the half on a 4-1 run, with three of the scores coming from Torre, including an around-the-back goal that proved to be the game winner at the 4:55 mark.
The Red Dragons put the game away with the first six goals of the second half for a 14-4 advantage with 19:48 remaining. Abbott found the back of the net three times during the stretch. Morris and Murphy tallied back-to-back goals for the Knights at 13:16 and 10:31, respectively, to make it a 14-6 game, but Cortland capped the scoring with the game's final three goals for the 17-6 final.
