The finalists have been announced for the 2008-09 SUNY Cortland C-Club Senior Male Athlete of the Year and Senior Female Athlete of the Year Awards. The winners will be recognized at the C-Club Athletics Awards Ceremony on Monday, May 4, at the Alumni Ice Arena.

The 2008-09 C-Club Senior Athlete of the Year Finalists are:

MEN:
Andrew Giuliano, Football
Paul LeBlanc, Wrestling
Shamus Nally, Cross Country/Track and Field
Bryan Patterson, Soccer
Jake Zanetti, Track and Field

WOMEN:
Lindsay Bakker, Lacrosse

Accomplishments of the finalists are listed below:


MEN:

Andrew Giuliano, Football (Running Back)

This season: Honorable mention All-American...First Team All-East Region...First Team All-ECAC Southeast Region...First Team All-NJAC...Set school records for single-season rushing yardage (1,480), total touchdowns (22), rushing touchdowns (22) and points scored (132), and single-game rushing yards (281 at Morrisville)...Team finished 11-2, won NJAC title and advanced to NCAA Div. III quarterfinals.

Career: No other postseason honors prior to senior year...Fourth in career rushing yardage at Cortland (2,434)...Team finished at least tied for NJAC title four straight years, played in NCAA tournaments in 2005 and 2008, and was in ECAC bowl games in 2006 and 2007.

Paul LeBlanc, Wrestling (149 pounds)

This season: All-American (second place nationally at 149 pounds) at NCAA Div. III Championships...29-3 record...Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference champion at 149 pounds...Team finished 19th at NCAA Championships and 2nd at Empire Championships.

Career: Three-time All-American (4th place (141) as freshman, 7th place (149) as junior and 2nd place (149) as senior)...Four-time Empire Conference champion (Cortland’s first four-time conference champ since the early 1960s)...New York State champion at 141 pounds as a freshman and second place at 149 as a junior...Cortland’s career win leader with overall record of 128-14...Team finished 6th nationally in 2006, tied for 8th in 2007 and 28th in 2008...Team won Empire Conference title in 2007, co-champ in 2008, and second in both 2005 and 2009.

Shamus Nally, Cross Country/Track and Field (Distance)

This season: Cross Country - All-American (11th place) at NCAA Div. III Championships...All-Atlantic Region (5th place)...First Team All-SUNYAC (2nd place)...Team won NCAA Div. III Championship, Atlantic Region title and SUNYAC title.

Career:
Cross Country – Three-time All-American (11th as senior, 8th as junior, 9th as sophomore)...Four-time All-Atlantic Region (5th, 7th, 13th and 6th places)...Four-time First Team All-SUNYAC (2nd, 2nd, 5th and 5th places)...Team won 2008 NCAA title, finished 3rd in 2007 and 4th in 2006...Team won three straight SUNYAC titles from 2006-08. 

Indoor Track and Field – All-American, 5,000 meters (5th place) as junior...SUNYAC 3,000 meter champion as junior and 5,000 meter runner-up as sophomore...All-ECAC 5,000 meters (4th place) as sophomore...Team finished 5th nationally in 2007 and tied for 8th in 2008, and won SUNYAC titles three straight years (2006-08).

Outdoor Track and Field – NCAA qualifier in 10,000 meters in sophomore and junior years...NYS Champion, 10,000 meters as sophomore...Three-time All-ECAC (ECAC runner-up, 3,000 meter steeplechase, as sophomore, ECAC 3rd place, 10,000 meters as junior, ECAC 5th place, 5,000 meters as freshman)...Team finished second nationally and won SUNYAC titles in 2007 and 2008.

Bryan Patterson, Soccer (Forward)

This season: First Team All-Northeast Region...First Team All-SUNYAC...11 goals, 5 assists for 27 points in 21 games...Team finished 11-7-3, won SUNYAC title and advanced to NCAA Div. III tournament second round (finished tied for 17th in nation).

Career: Played three years at Cortland...Three-time First Team All-SUNYAC...Two-time All-Northeast Region (1st team in 2008, 2nd team in 2007)...2007 SUNYAC Player of the Year...Finished career with 33 goals and 7 assists for 73 points...Tied for 3rd at Cortland in career goal scoring...Team won SUNYAC title and won NCAA opener in 2008 and advanced to SUNYAC semifinals in 2007.

Jake Zanetti, Track and Field (Pole Vault)

This season: Indoor - NCAA qualifier, ECAC champion, SUNYAC champion. Team won SUNYAC title.

Career:

Indoor – Four-time SUNYAC champion...Two-time NCAA qualifier (2008 and 2009)...Three-time New York State Champion (2006-08) (team did not compete in NYS meet in 2009)...2009 ECAC champion...2007 ECAC runner-up...2006 NYSCTC Rookie of the Year...Team won three SUNYAC titles (2007-09) and had three top-10 national finishes (tied for 8th, 5th, tied for 10th).

Outdoor – All-American (6th place) as sophomore...Two-time SUNYAC champion (2007 and 2008)...2007 ECAC and New York State champion...ECAC runner-up in 2006...Team finished second nationally and won SUNYAC titles in both 2007 and 2008, and won 2007 ECAC title.


WOMEN:

Lindsay Bakker, Lacrosse (Defense)

This season: Has team highs of 63 ground balls and 37 caused turnovers in 17 games...Team is 11-6 and ranked 19th in Div. III.

Career: First Team All-Region, All-ECAC and All-SUNYAC as junior...SUNYAC All-Tournament Team...Second Team All-SUNYAC as sophomore...Team won three straight SUNYAC titles and made three straight NCAA appearances from 2006-08.

Kayla Chambers, Field Hockey (Forward)

This season: 14 goals, 7 assists for 35 points in 20 games...First Team All-American...First Team All-Region...Second Team All-ECAC...SUNYAC Co-Player of the Year...Team finished 17-3 and advanced to NCAA Div. III quarterfinals.

Career: Two-time First Team All-American (2007 and 2008)...Three-time First Team All-Region (2006-08)...Four-time All-SUNYAC (first team three times, second team once)...Team advanced to NCAA quarterfinals three times (2005, 2006, 2008) and NCAA second round once (2007), won four SUNYAC titles and was a combined 68-11...Ranked fourth in school history with 59 goals scored and 144 total points (59 goals, 26 assists)

Brittney Horton, Volleyball (Setter)

This season: 1,559 assists (second-best in school history), 300 digs, .252 attack percentage in 41 matches...Honorable mention All-American...First Team All-Region and All-SUNYAC...SUNYAC All-Tournament Team...Team finished 30-11 and advanced to SUNYAC semifinals.

Career: Cortland’s career assist leader with 4,892...Set single-season assist record with 1,577 in 2006...Honorable Mention All-American in 2008...Three-time All-Region (first team in 2008; honorable mention in 2006 and 2007)...Two-time first team All-SUNYAC (2007, 2008) and two-time SUNYAC tournament MVP (2006 and 2007)...Team won three straight SUNYAC titles (2005-07) and made three NCAA appearances (tied for 9th in 2005; tied for 17th in 2006 and 2007).

Sarah Kimball, Track and Field (Pole Vault)

This season: Indoor – All-ECAC (6th place)...SUNYAC runner-up.  Outdoor – Broke school record with height of 11’ 9.75”.

Career:

Indoor – Two-time New York State champion (2007, 2008)...Two-time All-ECAC (2nd in 2007, 6th in 2009)...Two-time SUNYAC champion (2007, 2008)...Team won SUNYAC titles in 2007 and 2008 and was state runner-up in 2007.

Outdoor – 2008 NCAA qualifier...2007 ECAC champion...Three-time All-ECAC (1st in 2007, 2nd in 2006, 6th in 2008)...Three-time New York State champion (2006-08)...Two-time SUNYAC champion (2007, 2008) and 2006 SUNYAC runner-up...Team won 2007 SUNYAC title.

Katie Trivisonno, Soccer (Forward)

This season: 2 goals, 2 assists...Second Team All-SUNYAC...Team finished 8-6-5 and advanced to SUNYAC semifinals.

Career: Two-time All-Region (3rd team in both 2005 and 2007)...Four-time All-SUNYAC (1st team in 2007, 2nd team in 2005, 2006 and 2008)...2005 SUNYAC Rookie of the Year...Tied for ninth at Cortland in career points (76 – 29 goals, 18 asst.) and ranked 11th in career goals (29)...Team advanced to SUNYAC finals in 2007 and 2005 and semifinals in 2008 and 2006.
