Five members of the SUNY Cortland men's lacrosse team have been selected to the 2009 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III All-America team. Senior midfielder
Joey Morgan (Putnam Valley) and senior defenseman
Luke Lemon (Colorado Springs, CO/Air Academy) were named to the All-America first team. Sophomore defensive midfielder
Eric Parah (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) earned third team honors, while sophomore midfielder
Chris DeLuca (Sayville) and senior defenseman
Matt Noble (La Fayette) were honorable mention selections.
Morgan has 30 goals and 13 assists in 18 games this spring. He was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Player of the Year and the New York State Division III Offensive Player of the Year. Morgan has scored seven goals in Cortland's first three NCAA playoff games, including the game-winning tally in a 6-5 victory over Western New England in the quarterfinals.
Lemon has been a four-year starting close defenseman for the Red Dragons. He has 22 ground balls and one assist in 18 games and has anchored a defensive unit that has allowed 6.75 goals per game.
Parah has appeared in all 20 games for Cortland this spring. He is second on the team with 81 ground balls, and additionally has registered eight goals, including two game-winning scores, and four assists.
DeLuca is one of the nation's top faceoff specialists with a .697 winning percentage (200-of-287). He leads the Red Dragons with 111 ground balls and ranks third on the team with 46 points (26 goals, 20 assists).
Noble has started all 19 games he has appeared in this season. A four-year letterwinner, he has 42 grounds balls and one goal scored this season. Cortland's defense has held opponents to five or less goals eight times.
Cortland is 18-2 this spring, tying a school record for victories, and will be playing in its fourth consecutive NCAA Division III championship game. The SUNYAC champion Red Dragons will face Gettysburg College on Sunday, May 24, at noon at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
