Jason Simone (Utica/Thomas R. Proctor) and junior pitcher
Matt Tone (Rochester/Irondequoit) have all been selected to the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate New York baseball all-star squad.
In addition, Cortland 10th-year head coach
Joe Brown has been named the inaugural ECAC Upstate New York Division III Baseball Coach of the Year.
Jackson batted .386 this spring with two homers and a team-leading 40 runs batted in. He scored 38 runs and also registered five doubles, two triples, 18 walks and six stolen bases.
Simone, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Player of the Year, batted .359 with team-highs of seven triples and 18 stolen bases. He drove in 33 runs and also totaled eight doubles, a homer and 34 runs scored.
Tone, a third team Division III All-American, finished with an 8-0 record and a 3.07 earned run average in 11 appearances, all starts. He allowed 64 hits and struck out 84 batters in 67 and one-third innings pitched.
Brown led Cortland to a 31-14 record and their fifth straight SUNYAC title. The Red Dragons made their 17th consecutive NCAA Division III tournament appearance, extending the longest active streak nationally at that level. Brown is a combined 362-102-1 in his 10 years at Cortland with nine seasons of at least 30 victories.
