Cortland won its 11th straight SUNYAC title with an 11-8 win at Buffalo State last Saturday
The SUNY Cortland women’s lacrosse team will host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in an NCAA Division III tournament first-round game on Wednesday, May 6, at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The winner will play at The College of New Jersey as part of a four-team regional on Saturday, May 9, and will face the host Lions in a second-round game at 11:30 a.m.

Under first-year head coach Kathy Taylor, the Red Dragons (13-6) earned their playoff berth after capturing their 11th straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) tournament title. Cortland won the league title with an 11-8 win at Buffalo State in last Saturday's championship game and will be making its 11th straight NCAA appearance and 12th overall.

The Red Dragons received a bye into the second round last year before losing by a goal to Union College. Cortland advanced to the second round in 2007 before losing to TCNJ in double overtime on a neutral field. Cortland tied for third nationally in 2006 after making its first-ever NCAA "final four" showing and tied for fifth in the country in 2001, 2002 and 2005.

Senior attack Danielle Torre (Massapequa) leads Cortland with 74 goals and 24 assists for 98 total points. She has established school single-season records for both goals and points scored. Freshman midfielder Lindsay Abbott (South Onondaga/Onondaga Central) has 65 goals and 15 assists for 80 points. The SUNYAC Tournament MVP, Abbott is the first freshman in school history to score at least 50 goals in a season.

Junior midfielder Jess Fritz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) has 27 goals and 17 assists despite missing six games this spring due to injury. Senior attack Meghan Gallagher (Long Beach) has scored 11 goals and is second on the team with 23 assists, while sophomore midfielder Brianna Shost (Mahopac) has tallied 24 goals.

Senior defender Lindsay Bakker (Sloatsburg/Suffern) leads the Red Dragons with 41 caused turnovers and 73 ground balls. Cortland has played two freshmen goalies this season. Brianna Straut (Nanuet) has appeared in 13 games, including starts in Cortland’s last six contests. She has an 5-1 record, a n8.19 goals against average and a .468 save percentage. Amanda Caloia (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) has appeared in 16 games, 13 as a starter, and has a 9.58 GAA and .455 save percentage.
