CORTLAND, N.Y. - The nationally sixth-ranked Elmira men's hockey team scored three third-period goals and defeated Cortland, 3-0, Saturday night in non-conference action at Alumni Arena.

For Cortland (6-11), sophomore goalie Brittan Kuhlman (Elkhorn, NE/Winnipeg Saints) made 30 saves and allowed two goals in 58 minutes, 58 seconds of action. The Red Dragons played with an empty for 1:02 late in the game and allowed one goal in that span.

Senior Rusty Masters (Grafton, ON/Port Hope Predators) led Elmira (12-3-1) with a goal and an assist. Sophomores Andrew Wilcox (Rochester, MN/Walpole Express) and John Clewlow (Brampton, ON/Dixie Bee Hives) each tallied a goal. Senior Scott Gamble (Toronto, ON/North York Rangers), sophomores Kevin Willer (Toronto, ON/North York Rangers) and Martin Lee (Toronto, ON/Vaughan Vipers) and freshman Brian Davidson (Sparks, NV/Innisfil Lakers) collected one assist apiece. Freshman goalie Darren McDonald (Stittsville, ON/Nepean Raiders) stopped 16 shots to record his first career shutout.

After two scoreless periods in which each goalie made key saves, Elmira broke the deadlock when Wilcox stuffed in a rebound at 1:56 of the third. Clewlow made it a 2-0 game at 8:18 as Masters and Davidson set up his partial breakaway.

The Soaring Eagles took a penalty with 1:59 remaining, and Cortland pulled Kuhlman for an extra skater with a faceoff in Elmira's zone. The Soaring Eagles eventually cleared the puck out and Masters sealed the win when he scored into the empty net for his team-high 12th goal of the season.

Cortland held Elmira's power play, which entered the game with a 25.3 percent success rate, scoreless on nine chances, while the Red Dragons went 0-for-5. Cortland closes out its regular season with eight straight conference games beginning next Friday.
