SUNY Cortland senior forward Jessica Laing (Bloomville/South Kortright) has been chosen as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 24. Laing has now won the award three straight weeks and five times overall this season.
In addition, Laing has been named to the D3hoops.com national “Team of the Week” for the second consecutive week. The team represents the best five Division III players from all schools, by position, during the previous week’s action.
Laing averaged 23 points and 12 rebounds per game in two Cortland home victories. She registered her 12th double-double of the season with 22 points and 16 rebounds in a 79-60 win versus Fredonia on Friday. The following afternoon, she scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 74-47 victory over Buffalo State.
Laing leads the SUNYAC with 19.5 points and 12.3 rebounds per contest in 15 games. The Red Dragons have won seven straight games and are now 12-3 overall and 7-1 in league action.
