Cortland senior heavyweight Joe Murphy (St. James/Smithtown) has been named the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) Co-Wrestler of the Week for the week ending Jan. 24. He shares the award with Ithaca College's Jeremy Stierly.

Murphy finished in third place in his weight class at the all-division New York State Collegiate Wrestling Championships last weekend at Cornell University. He posted a 3-1 record, with his lone loss a 3-2 decision to the second seed from Cornell in the semifinals. Earlier in the week, Murphy earned a 9-2 decision in Cortland's 26-12 home dual victory over Oneonta.

For the season, Murphy is 27-4 with eight pins. He leads Cortland in victories and is second on the team in pins.

The Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference consists of Brockport, Cortland, Ithaca, Lycoming, Messiah, Morrisville, Oneonta, Oswego and Rochester Institute of Technology.
