CORTLAND, N.Y. - Freshman Brett Waters (Uxbridge, ON/Markham Waxers) scored a power-play goal with four minutes, 47 seconds remaining in the third period to lead the Potsdam men's hockey team to a 3-1 win over Cortland Saturday night in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons dropped to 7-14 overall and 4-8 in the conference, while the Bears improved to 8-10-2 and 4-7-1.

Senior Gerard Heinz (Kings Park/NY Apple Core) and freshman Mike Lysyj (Hillsborough, NJ/South Shore Kings) scored Cortland's goals. Juniors Justin Porpora (Hauppauge/NY Bobcats) and Jarrett Gold (East Setauket/NY Bobcats) and sophomores Ryan Markell (Columbus, OH/Ohio St.) and Joey Christiano (Rochester/Port Hope Predators) each registered an assist. Freshman goalie Doug Danzi (Nesconset/New Jersey Rockets) made 42 saves.

Junior Colin MacLennan (Whitby, ON/Ajax Attack) and sophomore Todd Hosmer (Scarbrough, ON/Newmarket Hurricanes) added goals for Potsdam, senior Connor Treacy (Markham, ON/Markham Waxers) added two assists and four other players each collected an assist. Sophomore goalie Trevor O'Neill (Keswick, ON/Stouffville Spirit) stopped 20 shots.

Potsdam took a 2-0 lead on a rebound goal from Hosmer at 10:27 of the first period and a power-play goal from MacLellan at 8:21 of the second. Cortland battled back to tie the game at 2-2 in the second. Lysyj one-timed a shot past O'Neill at 11:31 and Heinz scored on a deflection on the power play at 17:45.

The game remained tied until the Bears netted the game winner at 15:13 when Waters' slap shot through a screen from the right point found the upper left of the net. Cortland pulled Danzi for an extra skater with 1:12 on the clock but a pair of penalties resulted in a two-man advantage for Potsdam for the final 40 seconds.
