CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Oswego women's ice hockey team scored a pair of third-period goals just 54 seconds apart and defeated Cortland, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in ECAC West action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons fell to 4-13-1 overall and 3-8-1 in the conference with the setback, while the Lakers improved to 6-11-1 and 4-7-1.

Freshman Erika Osborne (Sharon Springs/The Harvey School) scored her first career goal for Cortland. Junior Shannon Hakes (Rochester/Rochester Edge) and freshman Kellie Micillo (Sayville/Suffolk PAL) recorded assists. Sophomore goalie Katie Double (Farmington/Victor H.S.) made 26 saves.

Junior Sarah Hannon (Lackawanna/Niagara Falls Rapids) and sophomore Kathryn Sbrocchi (Mississauga, ON/Mississauga Chiefs) netted Oswego's goals. Juniors Emily Grippin (Ithaca/Syracuse Stars) and Erica Shapey (Plainview/Northwood Prep), sophomore Kelly Collins (Fairport/Taft Prep) and freshman Kristin Metzger (Lee Center/Rochester Edge) collected one assist. Junior goalie Emi Williams (Anchorage, AK/Anchorage Northstars) stopped 20 shots.

After a scoreless first period, Osborne put Cortland ahead with a wrist shot through traffic from the left point at 17 minutes, 13 seconds of the second period. The Lakers tied the game at 8:51 of the third period on Hannon's rebound goal. Sbrocchi then netted the game winner at 9:45 when she scored from the slot.

With 1:26 left in regulation, Cortland was awarded a power play but that was nullified just 18 seconds later by a Red Dragon penalty. With the teams skating 4-on-4, Oswego controlled the puck in Cortland's defensive zone and the Red Dragons were unable to pull Double for an extra skater.
