GENESEO, N.Y. – Geneseo scored three goals in the first four minutes of the game and the Knights went on to defeat Cortland, 7-3, in a SUNYAC contest. David Arduin led Geneseo with two goals and one assist and Adrian Rubeniuk made 38 saves.

Corey John (Albany/SUNY Plattsburgh) and Jarrett Gold (East Setauket/NY Bobcats) paced Cortland with a goal and an assist each. Alex Arthur (Portland, ME/Boston Bulldogs) scored once and Gerard Heinz (Kings Park/NY Apple Core Jr. A) assisted on two goals.

The loss, coupled with Morrisville’s 4-2 win at Buffalo State, eliminates Cortland from SUNYAC playoff contention. The Red Dragons trail the Mustangs by two points with one game left, and even if they finish the season tied in the standings (wins are worth two points), Morrisville would win the tiebreaker over the Red Dragons (the team split and both would have four league wins, but Morrisville has the combined goal differential edge).

Geneseo used goals by Colin de Jersey at the 1:42 mark, Daniel Sullivan at 2:16 and Phil Rose at 3:59 to take a quick 3-0 lead and knock Red Dragon starting goalie Mike Reilly (New York City/Bismarck Bobcats) from the game. Reilly finished with two saves and Brittan Kuhlman (Elkhorn, NE/Winnipeg Saints) made 23 saves the rest of the way.

Gold scored his team-high 14th goal of the season just 50 seconds after Rose’s goal. The power play tally was assisted by Heinz and John and Cortland trailed 3-1 after the first period.

Jonathan Redlick struck on the power play for Geneseo 6:04 into the second, with Arthur answering at the 11:41 mark off a Dave Williams (Mississauga, ON/Port Hope Predators) assist. Arduin found the net for the Knights 2:30 later and John finished the second-period scoring with a power play goal at 16:30, set up by Gold and Heinz.

Geneseo scored both third-period goals – a power play marker by Dan Brown at 9:27 and Arduin’s second of the game at 13:37.
