SUNY Cortland senior forward Jessica Laing (Bloomville/South Kortright) has been selected to the D3hoops.com national “Team of the Week” for the third consecutive week. The team represents the best five Division III players from all schools, by position, during the previous week’s action.
Laing averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds per contest in three Cortland victories. She started the week with 24 points and 12 rebounds in a 69-63 win against SUNYAC leader Oneonta. She posted 24 points and 16 rebounds Friday in a 68-56 win at Brockport and recorded 18 points, eight rebounds and five steals in a 56-47 victory at Geneseo on Saturday.
Laing leads the SUNYAC this winter with 19.9 points and 12.3 rebounds per game through 18 contests. She is shooting 44 percent from the field (113-of-255) and 79 percent from the foul line (105-of-133). Laing enters this week’s action with 1,934 career points, 37 shy of tying the SUNYAC career scoring record of 1,971 points set by Geneseo’s Katie Smith from 1991-95.
Cortland was 15-3 overall and leading the SUNYAC with a 10-1 mark at week’s end. The Red Dragons have won 10 straight games.
