BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Sean O’Malley scored two goals as Brockport posted a 4-2 victory over visiting Cortland in a SUNYAC game. The Golden Eagles (13-11-1, 7-8-1 SUNYAC) will face Potsdam in the league tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday. Cortland completes the season with a 7-18 overall record and a 4-12 conference mark.

Freshmen Mike Lysyj (Hillsborough, NJ/South Shore Kings) and Chris Kaleta (Angola/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) scored goals for Cortland and junior Dan Jewell (Medford/National Sports Academy) made 35 saves.

Mike Hawyard finished with a goal and an assist and Chris Berardini scored once for the host Golden Eagles. Todd Sheridan started between the pipes and stopped all 16 shots on goal he faced over 20 minutes, 53 seconds. Oliver Wren recorded 17 saves and allowed two goals over the final 39:07.

Brockport grabbed a 2-0 lead seven minutes into the game. Berardini scored 5:01 into the first period and Hayward netted a power play goal at the 6:51 mark. The lead was pushed to 3-0 on an O’Malley goal 6:15 into the second.

Lysyj put Cortland on the scoreboard with his seventh goal of the season 12:59 into the second. Sophomore Corey John (Albany/SUNY Plattsburgh) and junior Jarrett Gold (East Setauket/NY Bobcats) assisted on the play. O’Malley responded with 4:29 left in the second with his 11th goal of the season.

Kaleta cut the Red Dragons’ deficit to 4-2 with a shorthanded goal, assisted by sophomore Jake Saville (Bellingham, WA/Marquette Rangers), with 3:31 left in the second stanza. Kaleta finished the season with seven goals. Neither team scored the rest of the game.
