SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Five Cortland athletes qualified for the ECAC Div. III Championships during the Red Dragons’ competition at the Syracuse University Invitational.

Freshman Katie Darling (Delhi/Delaware Academy) placed third in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.81 seconds and freshman Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) finished seventh in the 800 meters in 2:21.33. In addition, three Red Dragons posted ECAC qualifying times in the 3,000-meter run. Senior Lisa Holt (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough) finished fifth (10:27.13), junior Kristin Vespa (Ossining) was 10th (10:45.28) and sophomore Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) finished 11th (10:49.32).

Among non-ECAC qualifiers, senior Mallory Baker (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) finished fourth in the 400 meters (1:01.91), while freshman Lex Grable (Pine Bush) was eighth in the event (1:03.70). Sophomore Ashley Gansle (Loudonville/Shaker) finished in sixth place in the shot put at 10.67 meters (35’ 0.25”).

Three Red Dragons turned in eighth-place efforts – sophomore Jenna Evarts (West Islip) in the 55-meter dash (7.77), Darling in the long jump (4.97 meters – 16’ 3.75”) and freshman Christi Nassauer (Mount Sinai) in the pole vault (3.10 meters – 10’ 2”).

Other individuals in the top 10 were sophomore Valerie Basciano (New City/Albertus Magnus) in the 500 meters (9th place, 1:23.28), junior Erin Keaveney (West Hempstead/Kellenberg Memorial) in the mile (9th place, 5:25.80), freshman Alana Hotchkiss (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse) in the triple jump (9th place, 10.50 meters – 34’ 5.5”), freshman Joy’a Green (Syracuse/Corcoran) in the triple jump (10th place, 10.28 meters – 33’ 8.75”) and freshman Britt Krivicich (Middletown/Pine Bush) in the high jump (tied for 10th place, 1.45 meters – 4’ 9”).

Cortland earned two top-five finishes in the 4x400-meter relay. Baker, Fairbanks, freshman Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) and Grable finished fourth (4:19.40), while Joy’a Green, Basciano, junior Barbara Green (Levittown/Division Avenue) and junior Stephanie McGrath (Camillus/West Genesee) placed fifth (4:19.82).
