SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – Cortland finished in fourth place out of six teams at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Division III Championships, hosted by Springfield College. The Red Dragons finished with a score of 183.425. Wisconsin-La Crosse won its ninth national title in the last 10 years and its 14th overall with a score of 186.775.

Brockport finished as national runner-up for the third straight year with 186.20, followed by Wisconsin-Whitewater (184.75), Cortland, Springfield (182.425) and Winona St. (181.95).

Senior Christine Haungs (Derby/Lake Shore) earned All-America honors in the all-around competition with an eighth-place score of 37.125. The top 10 all-around finishers in the field of 18 competitors earned All-America recognition. Haungs posted a 9.675 on balance beam, a 9.45 on vault, 9.40 on floor exercise and an 8.60 on uneven bars. Kira Oldham Curtis of Ursinus College won the all-around title with a 38.375.

Five Red Dragons advanced to individual event finals. The top 14 finishers, plus ties, in each event will compete for national titles on Saturday. Three of Cortland’s five qualifiers were on vault as senior Chris Cate (Concord, NH) was third with a 9.675, senior Jenn Najuch (North Tonawanda) tied for fourth with a 9.65 and Nadrowski tied for 11th with her 9.50, matching her career high. Najuch was a second team All-American on vault last year when she tied for eighth place.

Also moving into Saturday’s finals are Haungs and senior Alyssa Neely (Allentown, PA/Parkland), both on balance beam. Haungs had the third best score in the qualifiers on beam with her career-best tying 9.675 and Neely finished 13th with a 9.325. Neely is the defending national champion in the event and was also a second team All-American with a tie for ninth place in 2008.

Junior Kasey Cutler (East Hampton, CT) was Cortland’s top uneven bars performer as she tied for 19th place with a 9.125. Haungs just missed a spot in Saturday’s vault finals with a tie for 15th place.
