Chris Cate established a new school record with her 9.75 on vault

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland senior Chris Cate (Concord, NH) set a new school record on vault with her winning score of 9.75 during nationally third-ranked Cortland’s 187.85-186.40 dual-meet loss at fifth-ranked Ithaca College.
Cate’s score on vault eclipses the school record of 9.725, which was reached three previous times over the past six seasons. Cate’s best previous score was 9.65 at last year’s ECAC Div. III Championships.
Junior Kasey Cutler (East Hampton, CT) tied for first on uneven bars with a 9.45, while senior Christine Haungs (Derby/Lake Shore) tied for first in the all-around with a 37.55. Haungs finished second on balance beam (9.65) and tied for third on vault (9.50).
Sophomore Cady Tinney (Nichols/Tioga Central) also tied for third on vault with a 9.50 and finished fourth on uneven bars with a 9.275, matching her career best. Senior Jenn Najuch (North Tonawanda) was third on floor exercise (9.60) and placed sixth on vault (9.45).
Sophomore Cristina Speirs (Plainview/Plainview-Old Bethpage) finished fourth on balance beam with a career-high 9.575, followed by sophomore Ashley Fleming (Holbrook/Sachem East) in fifth with a 9.40.
Cortland’s score was its second-best this season, and its scores on vault (47.60) and balance beam (46.725) are both season highs.
Ithaca was led by Jessica Bolduc, who tied for first with Haungs in the all-around (37.55), won floor exercise with a 9.675, finished third on uneven bars (9.40) and tied for third on vault (9.50). Kimberly Callahan won beam with a 9.70.
Both Cortland and Ithaca will compete next week at the ECAC Div. III Championships at Brockport. The meet will serve as a qualifier for the NCGA Div. III Championships, which will be held March 26-27 at Springfield (Mass.) College.
