CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – Cortland junior Aljamain Sterling (Uniondale) posted a 2-1 record on Saturday to place fourth at 133 pounds at the NCAA Div. III Wrestling Championships. Senior Martino Sottile (Brentwood) dropped a pair of bouts but still finished eighth at 197 pounds. Both Sterling and Sottile earned All-America honors with their finishes.

Cortland finished in 22nd place in the final team standings with 18.5 points. The Red Dragons have placed in the top 25 nationally eight times in the last nine seasons. Augsburg College (Minn.) won the title with 110.5 points, followed by Wisconsin-La Crosse (100.5) and 2009 champion Wartburg (Iowa) (83.5). Augsburg won its 11th national title despite not having any individuals win national crowns.

Sterling, who concluded the season with a 27-8 record, defeated Corey Brown of Thiel, 3-2, then upset fifth-seeded Chad Winowich of Ithaca, 4-2, to advance to the third-place bout, where he fell to Centenary's William Livingston, 4-3.

Sottile started the day with a 7-6 setback to Martin Porter of Delaware Valley, then fell, 4-3, to sixth-seeded Bill Schindel of Mount Union in the seventh-place bout. Sottile finished the season with a 23-11 record.
