The Dutchwomen opened up a 3-0 lead in the first 12:04 of the game, but Di Fato and Mahoney connected for back-to-back goals to make it a 3-2 game at the 11:36 mark. Union answered with another three-goal run as Cuozzo sandwiched a pair of goals around Hines' score and the Dutchwomen led 6-2 with 7:28 remaining in the half. The Red Dragons responded with the final three goals of the stanza, two from Fritz and one from Radigan, and Union led 6-5 at the break.
In the second half, the largest lead either team maintained was a two-goal cushion. Union went up 7-5 with the first goal of the second half, but Fritz and Di Fato scored to tie the game at 7-7 with 22:32 left. After Joyce and Miller traded scores, the Dutchwomen took a 10-8 lead at the 10:13 mark. Abbott made the score 10-9 off Di Fato's assist. Cortland held possession until a minute left when Union caused a turnover and called timeout. With 21 seconds remaining, Hine recorded her sixth assist of the game when she set up junior Abby Stohler's (West Hartford, CT) game-tying goal. The Red Dragons had two chances in the final seconds to win the game in regulation but missed the cage both times.
In the first three-minute session of overtime, neither team had a good chance to take the lead. Miller, however, made sure there would be no second overtime as she scored her ninth of the season off Radigan's assist after Cortland gained possession and worked a good clear with under a minute remaining. Abbott secured the ensuing draw control and Cortland was able to run out the clock and clinch the road win.
