ITHACA, N.Y. – Four Cortland athletes earned third-place individual finishes and the Red Dragons posted a half dozen other top-five individual efforts at the Cornell University Outdoor Invitational.

Freshman Lex Grable (Pine Bush) finished third in the 400-meter dash (58.67) and freshman Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) was third in the 800 meters (2:17.28). Freshman Jessica Andrianos (Camillus/West Genesee) finished third in the discus (39.09 meters – 128’ 3”) and sophomore Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland) was third in the 200-meter dash (26.45).

Sophomore Ashley Gansle (Loudonville/Shaker) placed fourth in the javelin (29.77 meters – 97’ 8”) and fifth in the shot put (10.96 meters – 35’ 11.5”). Junior Barbara Green (Levittown/Division Avenue) was fifth in the 800 meters (2:19.71) and freshman Karli Johnson (Mount Sinai) finished fifth in the discus (36.55 meters – 119’ 11”).

Three Red Dragons posted strong times in the 100-meter hurdles, led by freshman Nikki Schafer’s (Troy/Columbia) fifth-place effort of 15.35 seconds. Sophomore Brenna Filipello (Delmar/Bethlehem) was sixth in 15.36 seconds and freshman Katie Darling (Delhi/Delaware Academy) finished seventh in 15.37 seconds.

Schafer and freshman Britt Krivicich (Middletown/Pine Bush) each cleared 1.50 meters (4’ 11”) in the high jump. Due to one fewer miss, Schafer officially finished fifth while Krivicich was sixth.

Cortland posted quality times in both relays. The combination of sophomore Valerie Basciano (New City/Albertus Magnus), Fairbanks, junior Stephanie McGrath (Camillus/West Genesee) and freshman Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) finished first out of three entries in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:08.71. Sophomore Brittani Sahm (Phoenix/John C. Birdlebough), sophomore Jenna Evarts (West Islip), Montrose and freshman Erin Militello (Rochester/Gates-Chili) were second in the 4x100-meter relay in 49.84 seconds.
