SUNY Cortland Hosting Four SUNYAC Spring Tournaments

Four Cortland spring sports teams, by virtue of winning regular-season league titles, will be hosting their respective State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) postseason tournaments between May 5-9. The winner of each tournament will earn an automatic bid into NCAA Div. III tournament play.

Action starts on Wednesday, May 6, when the men's lacrosse team hosts fourth-seeded Potsdam in a semifinal game. If victorious, the Red Dragons will host either second-seeded Geneseo or third-seeded Oneonta in the title game Saturday at 3 p.m. (The time has changed fron 3:30 p.m.) Oneonta plays at Geneseo in the semifinals Wednesday.

On Thursday, the six-team, double-elimination SUNYAC softball tournament opens with four games. Top-seeded Cortland plays sixth-seeded New Paltz at 9 a.m., followed by second-seeded Plattsburgh versus fifth-seeded Brockport at 11 a.m. and third-seeded Oneonta against fourth-seeded Geneseo at 1 p.m. The losers of the first two games play at 3 p.m. in an elimination game. The tournament will continue with four games Friday, two Saturday, and one more, if necessary, on Sunday.

The four-team, double-elimination baseball tournament begins Friday as second-seeded Plattsburgh plays third-seeded Brockport at noon. Cortland, the top seed, will face fourth-seeded Oneonta at 3:30 p.m. Three games are scheduled for Saturday, starting at 10 a.m., and the championship round begins Sunday at noon, with another game to follow, if needed.

The four-team women's lacrosse tournament starts Friday with top-seeded Cortland meeting fourth-seeded Geneseo at 12:30 p.m. At 3 p.m., second-seeded Brockport plays third-seeded Buffalo St. The two winners play for the title Saturday at 12 p.m. (or 1 p.m. if Cortland's men's lacrosse team loses on Wednesday).

Ticket prices for the lacrosse tournaments at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex are $5 for adults and $2 for all students, including Cortland's. There is no admission charge for the baseball and softball tournament games.
