Cortland men's lacrosse players
Mike Tota (Webster/Webster Schroeder) and
Brian Krol (Niskayuna) have been honored for their academic achievements for the 2010 season.
Tota was selected to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine College Division District I All-Academic At-Large first team. The team, which covered 12 men's sports from Division II and III schools in New York and New England, was chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Tota was eligible for Academic All-America honors by being a first-team all-district selection, but was not named to the national team.
Krol was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award winner for men's lacrosse. The award is given to one student-athlete in the conference from each sport who has the highest cumulative grade point average among all first-team or second-team all-conference selections. Krol was also one of 71 men's lacrosse players across all divisions to be chosen to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-American team.
Tota is a mathematics and business economics major and had a 3.99 cumulative grade point average entering the 2010 spring semester. An honorable mention All-American this spring, Tota finished with 39 goals and 15 assists for 54 points in 20 games. The sophomore attackman ranked second on the team in both goals and total points.
Krol, a sport management major, had a 3.53 grade point average prior to the spring semester. The senior attackman was a third-team All-American and first-team All-ECAC, all-state and All-SUNYAC selection. He led the Red Dragons with 43 goals and 58 total points in 19 games.
Cortland finished the season 17-3 and advanced to the NCAA Div. III semifinals before losing 10-9 to eventual national champion Tufts University.
