BUFFALO, N.Y. – John Taggart scored off assists from Kevin Dhillon and Eric Schnirel with just 20 seconds remaining in regulation and the nationally 25th-ranked Medaille men's soccer team defeated Cortland, 1-0, in the season-opening game for both teams.

For Cortland, senior goalie Patrick Pidgeon (Williamsville/Williamsville South) made two saves. Ryan Goettel turned aside two shots for Medaille. 

The Mavericks out shot the Red Dragons, 13-6, in the game and held a 9-6 advantage in corner kicks.
