POTSDAM, N.Y. – Five different players scored goals as the Potsdam women's ice hockey team defeated Cortland, 5-1, Saturday afternoon in ECAC West action. The Red Dragons fell to 2-11-2 overall and 1-6-2 in the conference with the setback. The Bears improved to 6-9-1 and 2-8.

Freshman Allie Beall (Missoula, MT/National Sports Academy) tallied Cortland's goal with sophomores Cara Latchum (Warrington, PA/Wyoming Seminary) and Chelsey Wright (Medford/Suffolk PAL) recording assists. Freshman Sarah Ribarich (Farmingdale/N.J. Selects) made 23 saves in her second career start.

Caitlin Manahan led the Bears with a goal and an assist. Brittany Lucky, Stephanie Simons, Breanna Roy and Brittany Westlake each netted a goal, while Annmarie Lewis chipped in with two assists. Jen Conophy stopped 24 shots.

Lucky gave the Bears the lead two minutes, 38 seconds into the game, and Simons made it a 2-0 score after one period with a goal at 8:18. At 2:55 of the second, Roy pushed the lead to 3-0 when she scored just seven seconds after leaving the penalty box. Manahan then netted her goal at 14:24 of the second and Potsdam led, 4-0, heading into the final 20 minutes.

Beall put the Red Dragons on the scoreboard at 7:50 of the third period, and Westlake finished the scoring with a power-play goal at 17:47. Cortland finished the game 0-for-9 on the power play, while Potsdam went 1-for-5.

The teams will play again in Potsdam on Sunday at 2 p.m.
