ASTON, PA. – Kristina Hankins scored three goals and goalie Alexis Schutt stopped all 26 shots she faced as Division I Sacred Heart defeated Cortland, 8-0, in the opening day of the Neumann Tournament hosted by Neumann University. With the loss, the Red Dragons dropped to 1-8-2 on the season and face the loser of the Salve Regina vs. Neumann game at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Pioneers improved to 4-14 and await the winner of the second game at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

For Cortland, sophomore goalie Sarah Sitcov (Arlington, VA/Wyoming Seminary) started between the pipes, making 13 saves and allowing five goals in 32 minutes, 36 seconds of action. Junior Katie Double (Farmington/Victor H.S.) replaced Sitcov in the second period and stopped 13 shots while surrendering three goals in 27:24.

Jamie Mey added a goal and two assists, Brittany Harman had a goal and one assist, and Lauren Fontaine, Laura Howard and Sara Hanna each scored once for Sacred Heart. Maura Leahy chipped in with two assists.

The Pioneers led just 1-0 after the first 20 minutes on Hankins' first goal just 20 seconds before the end of the period. Sacred Heart took control of the game with a five-goal second period as five different players lit the lamp. The Pioneers completed the scoring with two even-strength goals in the third period, with Hankins recording her hat trick at 7:02, to advance to the championship game on Sunday.
