Fitzgerald and Carter Net First Career Goals in 4-2 Loss to Salve Regina

ASTON, PA. – Four Salve Regina players scored goals as the Seahawks defeated Cortland, 4-2, in the third-place game of the Neumann College tournament. Salve Regina improves to 5-7-1 with the win and the Red Dragons drop to 1-9-2 with the loss.

Two Cortland freshmen scored their first career goals, both in the third period. Jenn Fitzgerald (Phoenix, AZ/Gilmour Academy) tallied with six minutes remaining, assisted by junior Maggie Giamo (Orchard Park/RIT) and sophomore Cara Latchum (Warrington, PA/Wyoming Seminary), to draw the Red Dragons within 3-1. Charlotte Carter (El Segundo, CA/L.A. Selects) found the net with 4:14 remaining to complete the game's scoring.

Cortland junior goalie Katie Double (Farmington/Victor H.S.) finished with 34 saves, while Salve Regina netminder Ali Muehlbronner recorded 13 saves.

Shannon Ellis led the Seahawks offensively with a goal and an assist. Erin McCullough, Melanie Sherlock and Molly Houston also scored. Salve Regina led 2-0 after one period on goals by Ellis and McCullough. After a scoreless second stanza, the lead grew to 3-0 on Sherlock's goal 5:28 into the third. Following Fitzgerald's goal, Houston responded 48 seconds later to re-establish a three-goal margin for the Seahawks.
