CORTLAND, N.Y. - Senior goalie Mandy Mackrell (Cleveland, OH/Ohio Flames) stopped all 18 shots she faced and sophomore Teal Gove (Berwick, ON/Ontario Hockey Academy) had a hand in all three goals as the nationally third-ranked Plattsburgh women's ice hockey team defeated Cortland, 3-0, in ECAC West action Saturday night at Alumni Arena.

Junior goalie Katie Double (Farmington/Victor H.S.) turned aside 47 shots for the Red Dragons (4-16-2 overall, 3-10-2 ECAC West), including all 20 on goal in the third period.

Gove finished with a goal and two assists for the Cardinals (16-3-3, 12-1-2), senior Kate Fairfield (Toronto, ON/Oakville) and freshman Amber Welch (Keswick, ON/Brampton Thunder) each tallied a goal and senior Kara Buehler (Skaneateles/Syracuse Stars) chipped in with an assist.

Gove gave Plattsburgh the lead at 11 minutes, 43 seconds of the opening period when she beat Double with a backhand on a breakaway set up by Buehler's long pass. Just over three minutes later, Fairfield one-timed a shot in front after Gove forced a turnover behind the Cortland goal.

Just 1:41 into the second period, Welch gave the Cardinals a 3-0 lead with a slap shot from the left face-off circle that went over Double's shoulder into the top right corner. Early in the third period, the Cardinals killed off 1:25 of a Cortland two-player advantage on the power play to keep it a 2-0 game. Minutes later, Cortland held the Cardinals scoreless on a two-player advantage that lasted 31 seconds as Double made several outstanding saves to keep it a 3-0 score.

The same two teams return to action Sunday at 3 p.m.
