CORTLAND, N.Y. - Junior Julia Fleming (Buffalo/Buffalo Bisons) scored the game-tying goal on the power play at seven minutes, 10 seconds of the third period as the Cortland women's hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie versus Buffalo St. in the season finale for both teams Sunday afternoon at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons concluded their season at 4-18-3 overall and 3-12-3 in the ECAC West, while the Bengals finished 9-14-1 and 5-12-1.

Fleming also added an assist, and junior Maggie Giamo (Orchard Park/RIT) and sophomore Chelsey Wright (Medford/Suffolk PAL) contributed goals for Cortland. Freshman Gina Tomei (Bronx/Sound Shore Warriors) recorded two assists, and sophomore Kellie Micillo (Sayville/Suffolk PAL) and freshman Charlotte Carter (El Segundo, CA/L.A. Selects) chipped in with one assist each. Sophomore goalie Sarah Sitcov (Arlington, VA/Wyoming Seminary) made nine saves in 34:06 and was replaced by junior Katie Double (Farmington/Victor H.S.) after suffering an injury. Double played the final 30:54, stopping 13 of the 14 shots she faced.

Seniors Katie Olejarski (Rockford, IL/Rockford U19) and Marissa McMullan (Haileybury, ON/Mississauga Jr, Chiefs) and junior Christine Williams (Niagara Falls/Niagara County Coyotes) netted Buffalo St.'s goals with senior Amanda Johnston (Thunder Bay, ON/Thunder Bay Queens) registering two assists and sophomore Kailyn Murray (Medicine Hat, AB/Warner Hockey School) and freshman Mel White (Snohomish, WA/Washington Wild) each collecting an assist. Senior Alyssa Koniar (New Berlin, WI/RIT) turned aside 30 shots.

Williams gave the Bengals a 1-0 lead at 1:24 of the first period on a wrist shot from the slot with the teams skating four a side. Wright tied the game at 7:23, finishing off a rush from her own zone with a wrist shot in front. Giamo gave Cortland a 2-1 lead at the 15:47 mark of the opening period on the power play, getting a slap shot past Koniar from the top of the left circle.

The Bengals took a 3-2 lead after two periods. McMullan scored an unassisted short-handed goal with a wrist shot from the right side at 11:36. Less than three minutes later, Sitcov left the game in favor of Double. Olejarski gave Buffalo St. a 3-2 lead at 16:11 on a deflection in front with the skater advantage.

Fleming netted the equalizer 20 seconds into the power play after Koniar made a save on Micillo's deflection in front. The puck rebounded to the right side where Fleming knocked a one timer into the open side of the net to send the game into overtime. Buffalo St. out shot Cortland, 4-1, in the extra five minutes, but Cortland had the best chance on its one shot, but senior Shannon Hakes (Rochester/Rochester Edge) was denied by Koniar on a bid right in front.

Hakes and fellow senior Meghan Ward (Buffalo/Niagara Falls Coyotes) were honored prior to the game.
