Erika Osborne's power play goal broke a 1-1 tie with 3:05 left in the second period
PITTSBURGH, PA. – Sophomore
Erika Osborne's (Sharon Springs/The Harvey School) power play goal late in the second period held up as the game-winning tally as Cortland defeated host Chatham University, 3-1, in an ECAC West game.
Junior
Ashley Meyer (New York City/Sound Shore Warriors) and sophomore
Chelsey Wright (Medford/Suffolk PAL) also scored for the Red Dragons (3-15-2, 2-9-2 ECAC West). Junior
Katie Double (Farmington/Victor HS) earned the win between the pipes with 21 saves.
Chatham (0-13, 0-13 ECAC West) was led by Abby Maier, who tied the game off an assist from Sydney Williams with 5:12 left in the second period. Kaitlynn Smith finished with 20 saves.
Meyer opened the scoring 4:35 into the game off an assist from junior
Maggie Giamo (Orchard Park/RIT). After Chatham tied the game, Cortland grabbed the lead for good when Osborne scored her first goal of the season, assisted by sophomore
Taylor Puckhaber (Lake Placid/National Sports Academy).
The Red Dragons picked up a key insurance goal with 7:31 left in the game when Wright found the net for the first time this season. Freshman
Jenn Fitzgerald (Phoenix, AZ/Gilmour Academy) assisted on the play. Chatham pulled Smith for the final 1:33 of regulation but was unable to score.
The teams will play again at Chatham on Saturday at 2 p.m.
