WILLIAMSPORT, PA. – Cortland won five of the final six matches to pull away from a 6-6 tie and the nationally 27th-ranked Red Dragons defeated host Lycoming College, 22-10, in a dual match between Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference members.
Cortland, now 13-4-1 on the season, took an early 6-0 lead with decisions by sophomore
Sean Kempf (Wantagh/MacArthur) at 125 pounds and freshman
Brian Bistis (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) at 133 pounds. Lycoming (10-11) answered with wins in the next two bouts as Mike Maurer won at 141 pounds and Isaiah Britton was victorious at 149 pounds.
Cortland's winning run started with an 18-5 major decision by sophomore
Troy Sterling (Uniondale) at 157 pounds. Sophomore
Jonathan Conroy (South Plainfield, NJ) followed with a 3-2 win at 165 pounds as his third-period takedown broke a 1-1 deadlock.

James Ondris (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) extended the Red Dragons' lead to 16-6 with an 11-5 decision at 174 pounds. Lycoming's Troy Hayre won by a 9-0 major decision at 184 pounds to draw the Warriors within 16-10, but junior
Carl Korpi (Miller Place) clinched the Cortland victory with a 3-2 decision at 197 pounds. Sophomore
Corey James (Kingston), ranked seventh nationally at 285 pounds, finished the competition with a 5-3 victory.
