#7 Cortland Falls at #3 College of New Jersey, 12-5

Sophomore Maria Di Fato scored twice and recorded a game-high four caused turnovers
EWING, N.J. – The nationally third-ranked The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team outscored seventh-ranked Cortland, 8-2, over the final 33 minutes, 17 seconds, and went on to a 12-5 win Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Lions' Stadium. The Red Dragons suffered their first lost of the season, falling to 2-1, while the Lions improved to 3-0.

Sophomore Maria Di Fato (Camillus/West Genesee) paced Cortland with two goals and four caused turnovers. Junior Jordan Miller (Liverpool) and freshmen Taylor Robinson (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) and Ashley Cook (Commack) each scored a goal, and junior Lindsay Abbott (South Onondaga/Onondaga Central) and sophomore Mary Hartzheim (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius) recorded one assist apiece. Abbott added four draw controls. Sophomore goalie Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace/East Islip) made nine saves in 57 minutes before giving way to sophomore Ally Levy (Reisterstown, MD/Seton Keough), who did not face a shot on goal over the final three minutes of play.

Kathleen Notos led the Lions with four goals and one assist.  Alison Jaeger contributed three goals and an assist, Leigh Mitchell added two goals and three assists and Alex Spark scored twice. Goalie Mary Waller stopped seven shots.

Di Fato gave Cortland its only lead of the game with an unassisted goal at 28:10. Notos and Spark made it a 2-1 game before Miller knotted the score at 2-all at 21:40. The Lions then closed the half on a 4-1 run to take a 6-3 lead. Jaeger quickly increased the Lions' lead to 8-3 with two goals less than five minutes into the second half. Di Fato made it 8-4 with her second of the game at 21:32, but Mitchell scored twice and Spark added her second of the afternoon to give The College of New Jersey a commanding 11-4 lead with 13:04 remaining. Robinson tallied Cortland's final goal at 10 minutes, and Lauren Pigott completed the scoring with a goal for the Lions at the 4:11 mark.

The Red Dragons travel to Washington & Lee and Roanoke for a pair of games next week.
